I have extension straps for my hand winch but, of course, they are not usable with a snatch-block. High strength ropes have advanced considerably in recent years and are usable with a snatch block so I'm considering buying one of these:
They work well but like straps have to be looked after as like snatch straps etc they need to be kept clean and preferably out of the sun. Grit can get in the fibres which then acts like grinding paste abrading the strap/rope which is why you see people removing the rope from winches and only installing when required. They don't take kindly to be dragged over rocks etc when winching either for similar reasons.

Thanks Oka374: you make some pertinent points. As the rope will be used with a hand winch it will spend 99% of its life inside the 4WD out of sunlight and dirt. Dirt/sand acting as an abrasive between the fibres is something I hadn't thought of and I don't think there is much I can do about that, give it a good hose down with fresh water after use is probably about the best.
Aus-Kiwi: I cannot find any reference to "Plazma" rope; Plasma rope is a well known brand but much more expensive than Dyneema.

Hi.
I have a dyneema rope on my Warn Zeon winch and it has never failed me.
In my opinion, from a 4x4 point of view, the dyneema ropes are fair easier to use than the wire ropes (and I have used both types) and cause less hassles.
My warn zeon winch is awesome.
I recently pulled a Hi Lux up the beach and out of the quick sand (it was bogged down to the cabin floor) using my Warn winch but it needed two 4 x 4s linked together to stop me being dragged down the beach!

We use rope in line work which doesn't stretch much . This is what I've used . You cannot have mains bouncing around while suspending over roads or under 11kV mains etc . Aha Yea obviously I don't buy it . Strapping is another option? It pulls around winch better .

I wasn't there so I should just shut up ... but isn't that what the long handled shovel is for?
Use that to remove sand from in front vehicle//difffs/wheels etc.... certainly saves such excessive work for a winch.

In the scenario I described in my response, I really meant quicksand! The Prado in question was literally bogged to the floorboards! It was almost impossible to get under it. About six guys spent two hours trying to dig it out first and we had many Max trax which just kept disappearing into the bog. He actually lost two Max traks in the quick sand during this adventure so a very expensive exercise. Initially, the rest of the 4x4's were perched on a hard sand dune watching one adventurer try and see what the beach was like! Well he found out the hard way. And this guy was a very experienced 4 wheeler and had every piece of recovery gear imaginable. In the end, following all the useless digging (the walls of the holes kept collapsing) we used snatch straps and winch cables to completely turn the vehicle around (it was facing the wrong way in a very awkward position). Then I anchored myself to a Disco and I winched the Prado up and over the sand dune. Hence my comment on the Warn Zeon and dynemma rope. BY the time we finished, we could have built another Suez Canal through the sand dunes!
