I am with Dougwe on this one
Nails (and screws) should be banned, when planting a thong, on a thong tree
At Greens Lake Recreation Reserve, I noticed a thong, which had fell off the thong tree, and it had a nail/screw hole in the sole
I would have walked out into the lake, and pointed out to the unbelievers, that the water had come through the sole and covered my foot
Unfortunately the thong was not my size

We were told by a professional gardener (horticulturist) Galvanised nails were fine - but not to ever use copper nails - if you could find them. Won't hurt the tree.

Might only be an issue if the hole in the thong aligned with the hole in your foot.
I suggested to SWMBO that we start a thong wall in our BBQ area but she vetoed the idea. I wonder why. Just no taste. I used to hang lost/found thongs off my back bumper on a trip 'round the block' but they disappeared one day when I was out kayaking.

Hello Cupie
The hole was aligned to be somewhere between my big, and second toe
Because of my name (Tony), I was afraid that the water may have come up to my knees, if I had kept walking out
Gday...
