Ok, I know lots and lots of people suffer with the burning stinging feet caused by Peripheral Neuropathy as I do. I also know that it is a nerve pain so Opioids don't have any effect. But I will ask the dumb question:: Has anybody on this site had any joy at getting some relief from the never ending pain???

Have you tried a magnesium oil spray - I have been using it for quite a while on all sorts of pain, and find it gives relief. Friend had Ross River fever, used the spray on her right arm, which was very painful at the joints, relieved the pain, she was using it a few times a day.
I can give you a contact who will post to you, with instructions, if you like Aussie, the spray oil goes to the source of the pain directly, unlike pills or powder, which have to firstly go through the digestion system, so very fast acting.

I would suggest a Chinese Acupuncturist.
My lovely wife has found much relief that way.

Lyrica.. doesn't kill it but takes the edge off it. It is a prescription only med but read up on side effects. I'm on 2x150mg because of the after effects of chemo, trying to reduce my dosage at the moment.

Yeh Bass, my doctor tried Lyrica on me about 3 years ago with a horrible result. It caused an enlargement of my Prostrate,l and I stopped after 3 doses and it took about 5 days to get back to normal. I could hardly squeese out a couple of drops while standing and could not pea at all while sitting. It was probably my worst experience in 75 years at that stage.

I don't suffer from Peripheral Neuropathy, but have other pains due to aging and deterioration of the body - I find I get great relief using Zen Liniment (From Chemists) - Doesn't work on Chest Zippers, but it seems to help all other muscular and skeletal aches and pains. A lot better tolerated than opioids and anti-inflammatories.

A now retired member reported he had success at removing his severe condition atleast temporarily using a cream that tatto artists use to dull skin pain. I would think a search of this site would bring up his posts on the matter. Sorry I cannot recall the name of the cream but remember he had it posted in from over seas. That he tried two brands one working wonders the other not as good.

Yes Ralph, I bought a couple of different lots of those creams from Hong Kong after reading that tip and gave it a good go, I wasn't sure if it helped or not as it seemed to fade away fairly quick. How ever I did use up both tubes over a couple of weeks.

Info passed on by a friend of mine who has chronic pain from this condition;
Be careful of Lyrica (Pregabalin) especially if you are over 65. It causes Dementia (cognitive functioning impairment).
I have been taking it for over 8 years presently on 225mg mane and 150mg nocte, gives me about 40-60% pain relief on good days.
Paraesthesia (pins and needles) in hand/fingers/feet/toes only thing that works is Oxycodone (Edone) 5mg bd, again can contribute towards cognitive impairment/dementia.
(Mane means morning, nocte means evening.)
He is happy for me to pass on his email address by PM if anyone needs more info etc. PM me if needed.

A bit more info from my friend;
"speaking to my neurologist, she said magnesium oil works for some but not for advanced cases like myself.
It depends on the severity of your pain and length of time you have the disease.
I know Magnesium helps with my Arrthymia/Atrial Fibrillation in regulating it back to normal.
She said the medical profession do not recommend it for peripheral neuropathy."

My answer to that, Vic, would be - "But can it hurt?" If they say, no, why not give it a try - it may work for you, as it has for others.

I know that Vic - but - maybe we should question our doctors more, on what they are prescribing to us. Couple I know kept the wife alive and living a normal life for over eighteen years, when the prognosis is for 14-15 years at the most.
They found what worked for her, when doctors said they were going to change meds, the couple would say, we'll get back to you - went home and researched the proposed medication - they decided on their info not to go with the recommendations, quite often. She has passed now, but not from her illness.
