About 1km west of Narrawong, turn onto Boyers Road and follow the sealed road, and the signs, to the Sawpit Picnic Reserve. Last 400metres is unsealed but solid dirt road.
There are clean drop toilets, pets are allowed, Telstra internet/mobile coverage, fires in the pits provided and in fire drums (eg my choofer), picnic tables and no potable water or grey water restrictions.
A very well wooded area which means, on a cloudy day, solar panels are very slow to charge. However, it is a very lovely spot and well worth a longer stay than just overnight.
There is a walk to the "Whaler's Lookout" - very easy 20 minute walk. Birds and animals are fairly obvious - although it is now school holidays and there are quite a few children around. They are very well-behaved - but I think some of the animals are a bit wary.

From memory there was just the one old toilet, and no bins
So it will be even better with the new toilets
I was only there for two days, while using it as a base to explore Portland area
I never went on the walk trail, as it was raining most of the time, with everything slippery

Arguably one of the ten most popular free camps in Victoria. Lovely spot, popular with overseas whizz bangers & a few ferals living semi permanently in two man tents. Still worth staying at though.
Had a horrific experience in the recently built new toilet block.
Someone had lifted the seat & sh*t around the rim of the cistern, then put the seat & lid down. I came in, lifted the lid & sat down squashing the sh*t like squeezing peanut butter through a cracker biscuit.
Ended up with a ring of sh*t around my bum cheeks. NICE ONE!

I do remember that it was fairly close to Portland, as I left the caravan there, as I toured around the area, in the rain
Perhaps some of the local likely lads, had not been there before me, as it had been raining on and off for a few days

I just thought I would add that there are free showers in Portland at the community center located in the Aldi parking area, turn left at the lights just after woolies. I stay here several time throughout the summer period when fishing Portland, it can get rowdy during peak periods but generally it's a great place to stay.

We stayed there last year. Left early due to trail bikes and a few rough nuts camping there. (Weekend) But ok for a night or two during the week.
