All the power posts have been locked up with a bunch of padlocks.
Only open facility is a small old style toilet block (2stalls) full of mossies.
Plus a dump point- sited where it's difficult to empty all your grey water as requested by several notices.
Water taps are poorly located and hard to find.
Fair bit of traffic noise and headlight nuisance from 2 surrounding roads higher than campsites.
Also awkward exit to a busy road on a hill.
Theres a request notice and donation box and another box for collecting local business receipts, and numerous apologies posted for not offering the Camps 8 details. Lots of ads for local businesses.
Glad I didn't donate too early, as $10 per night was collected at 6pm by a caretaker who said they had been plagued by freeloading German and French backpackers who arrived late and left early, and if accosted had only credit cards and no cash. True story?? This is not really the same location as Byron or Coffs. It's 40Kms North of Grafton, just off the Pacific Highway, although fairly close to Yamba & Iluka.

I don't know the full history, but am a bit suspicious of poor council management. ( Or possibly caravan park lobbyists??) About 15 rigs were probably caught like me fleeing from Cyclone Debbie and hoping for non-existent hot shower & power for battery charging. So thats $150 collected on a wet March night. Many smaller, and poorer small country towns offer much better value showground facilities. Coin -operated showers work fine elsewhere, as do coin-op power points, and could easily be installed with this kind of income. Current arrangements appear very stingy and penalise grey nomads.
There are quite a few free rest areas not far away on the Pacific Highway that offer nearly as much for free, - or some have even better if basic facilities. I'll know better next time.
So if you're happy to be fully self-contained on a boggy patch of grass and pay $10 for it, good for you.
Might be pleasant next to the river on a sunny day- but-.
So as far as I'm concerned, sorry Maclean, I, for one, won't be back!

Paul, I am pleased that you don`t like the Maclean Showgrounds, with you not being their it makes more space for others.
We stayed their in September and found it to be one of the best low cost camps in the country. The dump point is easy to access, and yes their is no power but self contained RV`s don`t require power.
We have stayed in other $10 a night camps with NO toilets,NO water and NO dump point.

Sounds like Paul might be better suited to caravan park stays.
