we have just received our insurance renewal for our van $690 for the year with RAA , this supposedly has a discount also. Van valued around $60,000 Would you say this is expensive, seems a lot to us. Any suggestions of another insurer to approach or would you say this is about what we should expect

I just got my tugs insurance, I am waiting for the van insurance. The tugs insurance is $751! I think things are starting to spiral out of realistic values.

Hi jbrinks, sounds pretty good to me I paid double that for $70K coverage with CIL, even so it seems that all insurance (health, car, home etc.) is getting so expensive that people just won't be able to afford to stay covered.

The old adage is: you only get what you pay for. Do your homework and read the Product Description Statement. As Sol said many years ago "oils ain't oils". The same applies to caravan insurance.

Hey.
The secret to it. If you want to get sensible policy costs.
is to get over the New, and\or expensive van syndrome.
With their policies,
cars and boats the same.
Bin Ther, Dun that.
Nowadays.
'99 van 2010 ute. and 2002 boat.
They all roll. bed, and float. the same.
Don't matter if I scratch them.
and Insurances quite sensible.
I also do All mine "Agreed Value".
The "Market Value" is a con they can say it's whatever figure they like
When you claim.
and you have NO recourse (Within sensible financial costs)
My last motorbike 13 months old. full ins from new.
Had accident. write off.
Ins man came round hospital for signature?
Bike cost me $6.300 in '89.
Been to Townsville and back to Adel coupla times and local running.
As new. (PRE the bump)
Marzocci comp forks. Brembo 4 piston front brakes. braided lines etc
All added extra but not on policy.
They gone..
He offered me $3200cash if I signed NOW.
I'd paid near 3 k on the extra parts alone.
"S'cuse me. Look at policy."
"AGREED VALUE."
OH.. hmmmm. "I Didn't see that"... Much.

Hay Macka17 - not sure of the insurance company who covered your bike, but based on your story, did the guy turn up at the hospital with a Quill & Ink for you to sign? Long time since I've heard of "insurance people" physically turning up to get an actual "release form" signed by an insured. Hopefully one day they will go electronic and save the "insurance guy" having to drive to the hospital. He did pay in $ & not Pounds, Shillings & Pence. Just asking but a good story.

Accident 30 June 1990.
His visit a week later approx. I was in Intensive care for 2 1\2 weeks.
2 months in Hospital and 5 plus yrs learning to be human again. Physically.
That ancient enuff for you mate?. chuckle.
Ins. was Western QBE from memory. Adelaide.
Interesting. But wouldn't want to repeat.
And Unfortunately.
NOT a story.
Hence the implanted Pain Management in my Spinal Chord and neck\back
With Power Pack\controller implanted in hip system I'm going through at present.
after 26 yrs living on differing levels of Morphine and other "interesting" lollies..
Hopefully It'll allow me to drop the drug levels a bit.
You know anybody with REAL Chronic pain?.
Get them to look up the "Nevro" System. through Q Pain in this country.
Ok'd and financially subsidised by the Gov't in this country.
If it turns out half as good as my 10 day trial in Brissy last yr.
I'll be wrapped.
As are ALL the others I've spoken to. actually already implanted.
Every one (so far.) 98% contented.
Here's hoping.

We are insured with the RAA, in fact all of our insurance is with them including our monitored security. You can pay monthly and it costs no more. We do that by direct debit each month and that way we never have to think about when it is due. We've found them excellent to deal with on the very few occasions where it has been necessary. Another great offer with car insurance is that if you insure with them and your vehicle is written off they will replace it with a new one even way down the track. We couldn't believe it when we insured our new 200 Series, but it is correct. Only came into being in 2014.
