Unfortunately, we've got a temporary health issue but it may take a couple of years to solve. So, we've decided to take the Millard Weekender off the road to save money. Hand in the plates. There'll be no problem registering it again. It does serve a purpose for overflow accommodation so we don't want to sell it.
Anyway, we still want to insure it against fire & theft. (Although, taking the wheels off would reduce the "theft" risk considerably)Now, CIL only do comprehensive @ $418. There's also the registration & third party costs.
I checked with Allianz who do our Home & Contents in the hope that, with the wheels removed, it would become a building and be added to the House insurance. No go there either.
It will be at our home in our yard, so it's not exactly an "on site" 'van either.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Wow. I hope someone knows what to do. Have not seen this before so will be interested. I was thinking more, if u get a big rain. Flood cyclone as well as fire n theft. more difficult to steal if the wheels r gone though. Good luck.

Rather than ringing round the insurance companies, try contacting an insurance broker. They might be able to put together a custom policy to suit your situation.

The broker might be the go. I thought as well that if someone was to injure themselves in or about the van...???

Try the NRMA they have a policy were you can nominate what months your van is actually in use on the road and the premium is adjusted according to use and the rest of the time it is cover for risks other than accidents while on the road.
Cheers

Spot on David,
We have done exactly that. Cause we are away with our boat soon. As well, if you decide to you want to use the van in that period, we only have to contact them and give them the dates. and they will adjust the the premium.

Well, we're ready to get back on the road again. No insurance but fortunately the van wasn't stolen, burnt down, no-one broke their leg on it an sued us. Lucky us.
Going through the check list now; tyres, electrics, gas fittings etc. etc.
I'll drop up to service NSW & see what I have to do to tow it for a rego inspection and use some of the advise above for Insurance. (Any other suggestions gratefully accepted).
We're starting to get all "fuzzy."
"On the Road again. Gotta get back on the...." (oops! s'cuse me.)
