Shut the front gate! How amazing is that! Amazing. I had the pleasure of driving both ways not long after it opened GF and was a pleasure to use both sides. Looks great from the distance when approaching from the North too.

Certainly improved and advanced on the 'thrust bores' and "pipe jacking" we did by hand in early ,60's
We used to dig shafts and tunnels all under (mainly London ) cities, built up metro areas for cabling and services below the roads
And buildings. Even did one under the Thames.
I drove shaft head cranes mainly, but when hard and buckets slow, I'd go down the tunnels and do some time on jackhammers or loading/pushing rail carts to head for liifting. Usually the tunnels were around 3 to 4 ft sq with timber shoring.
Didn't have fat fella's down there and ALL Irishmen. Not too many would work ontheir knees 10/12hrs a day, 7 days a week.
Driving mini jackhammers (forget the name of) and shovelling rocks/dirt/clay.Jeez. they could drink.

Wish they would build a tunnel through the Clyde or Brown Mountain or perhaps Macquarie Pass.
