Now that Xmas and New Year celebrations are over, I will now tell you the not so good news of what has happened to me last October.
While I was staying overnight at Rockhampton on my way back home from my trip to visit daughter in Townsville, I received a phone call telling me my Dept. of Housing unit, and the unit next door to me, had burnt down. All I had left was some old clothes, thongs and gum boots that I had in the van with me. Daughter has one more year at Uni. to become a vet, and has a wild life hospital which she runs by herself on her property so I don't need my nice clothes etc. up there when looking after sick and injured wild life.
I'm not very happy about the fire as I had reported the safety switch on the switch board flipping out all the time. Lady from maintenance said it was probably one of my appliances doing it, would not send out an electrician to check it out. So the fire started in the ceiling somewhere in the lounge room and my not being there at the time may or may not have been a good thing.
So I have been relocated to Southport, in Queensland, and not having any insurance, have had to start all over again. Thank goodness for the Salvation Army, friends and family. I had to replace my near new microwave and have yet to replace my near new blender etc. and most of all, my Bernina sewing machine that I did a lot of work with, it was a steel machine that I did all my sewing on, not one of those plastic ones that are around today. Don't want to even think about all my camping gear that was lost as well or my computer etc..
However, while I am sad at losing all the things that I had worked hard for over the years while raising four wonderful children, I have moved on. The sad days are getting less frequent and the happy days are returning.
So that is the latest news, thought I would share with fellow travellers.

Must be devastating for you June.
A person needs hope and a reason to go on....you have both in abundance...
Great to hear about the Salvos, I recently donated furniture to our local Salvos..hope they help someone in a situation like you found yourself in....
You have every reason to feel sad,.....all the best from now on.......onward and upward...

How awful mate
Like you say....thank goodness you have your life.
What a shame you can't do something about the fact they didn't do anything about your reports. I reckon the government would have that stitched up though - pack of ..........
Have you thought about going on some of those freecycle sites and asking for a sewing machine? People would be happy to give a sewing machine that's sitting around doing nothing (mines in storage wasting away - not qld though).
