The article's headline says true north but it seems the device actually senses magnetic north.

Joe - headline says magnetic now? Interesting device but $419 for a device that beeps when you are facing magnetic north makes it an expensive gimmick especially when it is basically a compass. Strange the article didn't mention military applications.

Any body with a pointers watch and sun shining, can give you North.(Midday a bit of a prick.)
And MOST Phones and\or GPS have MAG, compass in them.
Just another con to part fools from their money Hey.
