Leaving Tassie in April heading North. Travelling In an X Trail with a Black wolf Turbo Tent. Any suggestions for Places to see. Also my wife is concerned about Weather conditions & what to take. Staying at Caravan Parks or National Parks. Thanks.

Hi Alan, I'll also be leaving Tassie in April and heading for my first road trip solo. As for what to see, that will depend on which way you go and what interests you maybe just drive along and keep your eye's open but talk to people where you pull up for the night and everyone will be happy to tell you what they found worthwhile to stop and see/ do.

Hi Alan we live in Cairns, for the last 3 years traveled around Qld inland Longreach, Winton, Blackall, Hughenden
stayed in lots of national parks and some good van parks. every year we plan on going further south But keep finding little
gems of places. If your coming up this way Broardwater National park out of Ingham is great, Porcupine Gorge out of Hughenden is worth a look
West of Cairns is Cobbold Gorge private ground but great. so much to see and do you may end up like us can't get away from top end

Thanks for the feedback. Hope to talk to you all again soon. My wife Ingrid is still concerned about Weather conditions and what to wear. My last time out there was 3 Decades ago and she has never Been Outback at all.

Hey Alan....... get SWMBO to read a few of the member travel blogs .....they all have photos of people.........in clothes........the fashion of the playground should give her a good idea of what to wear...

It does not matter where you go in Oz, you need to plan to dress in layers. You need both long and short basic clothing and you add extra layers over that as it gets colder. I take a few shorts and a couple of pairs jeans. I wear long sleeve warm tops over the bottom layer and when it gets even colder add my horse rug over that. A good windproof (must definitely be wind proof) coat makes a good horse rug. Unless you are an extreme country hiker then one good solid pair of solid shoes should suffice plus a couple of pairs of sandals (that's what I carry.) If you are not a keen sandal wearer then reverse the numbers.

Alan, take light clothes and jumper, cardigan for cooler nights.
Don't too much on your first trip, most people do and then regret it. North always has nice warm days, cool nights.
Coming from Tassie it will be warmer than you are use to.
Plenty of shops around for necessities.
