I don't know the legalities of self importing RV's from the States but this mob in the Good ol US of A, They sell quite a few if their website is true 2500 + in 2016.
Check out the cost of them I looked at Diesel version Motorhomes. I started at the cheap end.
A lot for your money. The CMCA Wanderer magazine has an ad for the Tiffin Allegro RV. Admittedly fully Oz compliant and RH drive but at over half a million.

Back in the day I showed dogs for many years. When we went away for a few days showing, we would mostly tent it or stay in a cabin in a C.P. You would hardly ever see anyone with a motor home. I lived in Florida for a couple of years. We went to a dog show while I was living there. I couldn't believe my eyes! not a tent in sight. Everyone had beautiful R.V'S all fitted out with carry compartments ( air conditioned of course) for their dogs. Each Winter there was always a convoy of "snow birds" heading South for the Winter in their beautiful motor homes.
This short Video was posted to me by a Member who, unfortunately prefers to stay silent these days,
It's amazing how many RV's are hitting the road in America, just have a look at the assembly line................
