My Christmas will be spent less than 20kms from home at a place called Broken Creek Bush Camp. I will be testing out everything 12 volt and generator friendly for $10 dollars a night. It is not free camping but I will be in touch with home for things if I need to fix anything.
I have invites from friends and the like to spend Christmas with them, all well intentioned, but this will be my first Christmas as a Solo with a new van, I figure this Christmas will be my own with my new life as a solo. I have spoken to the park owner and there will be plenty of people there, so I will not be alone, grey nomads are never alone.
Christmas dinner will comprise of Scottish delicacies, tatty scones, black pudding, fried eggs, bacon, and anything else that will harden arteries including wok fried yabby tails in butter and garlic if I can poach them! This includes Single Malt Scotch, and any reason to just sit and enjoy the day.
I am looking forward to being away from the house and not having to worry about clearing out the clutter. So for all those that have lost a loved one in the last year, all the best for Christmas. It will be a hard time for me. I hope that it works for me and I hope everything works for everyone else. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
New Year will be another issue, camp oven shortbread and Single Malt Scotch Whiskey at 1 minute after midnight!

Being solo has a lot going for it.
I was for most of my life even when married. 6 weeks work .Long weekend home. for around 20 yrs.
Best Birthday I ever had was my 50th.
Single man. Sailed 5 days straight out from Harbour. Self and Dog.
Spend day just cooling and getting pissed. Then 5 1\2 days back.
Nobody on radio. nobody on horizon. Just pods of Dolphins.
Perfection........
Don't ever knock the single life. If I hadn't found the love of my life at 58. I'd still be single now.
Have a wee dram or two for me too Haggis. From an old Geordie...
PS. Where do you get decent Black Pudding over here. or a nice slice of bacon with decent Rind on it.
Losing someone of either sex. or age. is hard
But time does. eventually help.
You never forget but it sits more in the shadows
and you always have the memories like they were yesterday
even after 54 yrs..

Broken Creek is a fabulous camp. You're sure to be paid a visit by the adorable resident Jack Russell, Maggie.
Good for you that you're getting out there after your loss rather than sitting at home moping. Wishing you all the best for the festive season.

Hi Lancelot, I am not a solo and I can only imagine how hard this Xmas is going to be for you, hopefully there will be some fellow grey nomads amongst the travellers for you to celebrate the day with. The pain of losing a loved one as Macka said will lessen over time but occasions such as these are always going to be the hardest. All the best with your new life as a solo I wish you well in your travels, you can keep your Scottish food though my blood pressure was going up just reading your menu.

Lancelot I wish you a very happy Christmas! I often go away in my camper on my own. I have a wonderful Hubby who occasionally comes along with me, It's not really his idea of fun though! I love it, so he is quite happy for me to head off whenever I get itchy feet. I love to fish! so my boat will follow along behind my slide on camper for most of my trips. A lot of these take me to the mighty Murray. I miss my Hubby when I do go away! but I really don't mind my own company when he stays home. I'm sure Christmas will be difficult for you but I also know that your lost loved one wouldn't want you to be doing anything else. Stay safe & enjoy!!

I'll probably be alone....maybe it's cos I'm not grey yet lol. I'll be on he nullabor somewhere im guessing.....so everyone else will probably have passed through and be at their east or west destination im guessing.
I'm sure you'll have a blast. The shortbread sounds great!! I've at least managed to find gluten free shortbread and fruit mince pies....so it's looking up for me if they don't taste like chalky cardboard lol.
All the best to you and have a great day. I'm sure you will. It really is just another day. I'm not even seeing the normal Christmas flurry this year. Maybe because I'm not in a city....

Christmas is for. and from Shopkeepers.
To get your money.
They got everybody conned.
It is a RELIGIOUS festival after all.
We just have a leg of lamb and maybe small pudding with custard.
Leave the celebrating to the kids.

Broken Creek is a lovely spot, but I hope that the large & numerous mosquitoes that were there in late October have moved on.
