Our family over the last 40+ years have been fans of Nissan . Especially their diesels, trucks . But since Renult have merged with them . Their durability has failed big time .

If you read the recall you will be aware the recall is not really a "Nissan" problem/fault ... it is the Takata airbags which are a 'provided' item and in almost every vehicle on the market.
It has absolutely nothing to do with 'the Renault merge' .... except maybe the new merge decided to change supplier of airbags.
The recalls because of these airbags have been world-wide and began some years ago. Interesting that only now Nissan is being affected.

Yea just saying the engines have had their issues the last few years . Breaking rod bolts and burning Pistons etc .. Yes the pistons are possibly a service thing as other engines have similar issues if EGR etc isn't kept clean or fuel filters etc maintained .

My old 89 Nissan Patrol, has more than 500.000 km on the clock now, and she is still chugging along,
The Secret to long life could be that I change the Oil and Filters every 5.000 km,
Mind you, she is getting a little short of breath now on steep climbs with the Van behind, but she has taken us to every corner of this BIG country over the last 8 or so years.
5 in the box, no turbo, 4.2 Diesel, she been a good old plodder and far from the fastest on the road, but she's never let us down yet.
I wish blokes would stop walking in off the street, wanting to buy "Nessie" all the time,
think I may have to stick another sign on the back, besides the "Grey Nomad" sticker, "Not For Sale"

Know a few people who have totally rebuilt older Cruisers, Patrols for this very reason . With some modern tweaks . Tuff as !!

get a compression\oil pressure check. Tuned exh to let her breathe.
and if checks ok a small Turbo.
A Different veh then and you'll get another 500k.
But a decent exhaust WILL help her a lot. Even just taking out the silencer box.
Those recalls aren't ANY brand of car. Toyota\Nissan etc.
They the brand of airbags installed.
Nothing mechanical.

We had a letter re the airbag recall earlier this year from Nissan - tracked us down even though we'd bought our 2010 Navara Ute 2 years ago second hand from Newcastle and drove it back to WA. After a more recent letter indicating the replacement airbags were now available - about 6 weeks ago we took the ute in and had the airbags replaced no problem.

Maybe I look at things differently but to me recalls show a genuine desire to fix what is wrong, even if the desire is to avoid potential litigation or by the industry's controlling body doing its job. What really worries me are those that don't issue recalls unless they are caught out and forced to do so.
I tend to wonder why I have yet to come across recalls in the caravan industry based on the almost daily negative comments generated here against many caravan brands.

Hi ,i to have a Nissan , Rebadged Ford Maverick. ( Mavis) 1992 ,230,000 ks on clock ,4.2 diesel nonturbo, went with extractors , uses no oil, was towing 18ft jayco poptop no problems.
Now BT50 with 20,6 starcraft outback. Sadley MAVIS will have to go. (to a good home)

Ironically, its the Japanese manufactured Navaras that have been recalled in that notice, not the Thai made ones! (you can tell by the VIN#)

According to my experience working first for General Motors then VW and the following I looked up to confirm that nothing has changed in the last 15 years,(https://www.quora.com/What-parts-of-a-vehicle-do-automakers-outsource ) the vast majority of parts on a vehicle are outsourced to Original Equipement manufacturers.
If we accept the premise that in this case the fault lies with the OE part supplier rather than Nissan, then logically the vast majority of recalls cannot be blamed on the vehicle brand.
I disagree with this as OE parts are made to the vehicle manufacturers engineering specs and quality parameters for that particular vehicle and brand. In most cases the vehicle manufacturer have their own personnel based at the OE factory to ensure engineering specs and quality parameters are adhered to. But only big money and good lawyers will agree who is ultimately responsible.

The YD25 in the 2010 is the same as the 1st YD25 to go into in a D22 Navara in 2008 (the Ute in the recall is a D22). Before that there were ZD30's in them, no problems with the ZD30's in Navaras either, in fact quite the reverse! There were also V6 petrol, no probs there either - I could go on, I've been buying Nissan/Datsun dual cabs since 1982 & never had engine problems! The only problems I've ever heard of are told of by someone, who once knew someone, whose nephew overheard in a bar that there are engine problems with them! The newer ones are every bit as solid as the older ones were.
I was pointing out that the recall ONLY affects Japanese made models - they obviously didn't put the faulty air bags into the Thai made ones!

Yes a D40. Think about it, designed in Italy, powered with a French motor and gearbox, and built in Spain. More European than most of the European vehicles.
