G'day Jim, No I didn't buy them as I already have a couple of Handhelds,
It did strike me as unusual for them not to have the full 80 channels, maybe they don't count the call channels,
At any rate, they are cheap at that price, and if they are not satisfactory, ALDI have a return policy.

Bought a set yesterday, seem to work ok. For the price not bad.
They are 80 chan radios, but I hink the way the chanels work , is that 22 and 23 are telemetry chanels, and chan 61,62 and 63 are locked pending aproval from the ACMA.

The CB band is split into 80 channels. There are 5 channels that are allocated to radio link work (telemetry) in rural areas. You are not permitted to operate on those so most (if not all) the transceivers are locked out so we can't use them. All our transceivers are actually 75 channel sets unless someone has fiddled with them to work on the unauthorised channels.

Wal has been a little more technical than I have in my previous message. Channels 22 & 23 are actually 25 kHz spaced channels. Channels 61 - 63 are guard channels to protect the two wider telemetry channels. (Remember, channels 1 - 40 are interleaved with channels 41 - 80.)

They were too good to pass up at that price. Dont think you will get 5kM range out of them, maybe over water or very flat terrain but not in a built up area. We can get about 500m under what I'd consider normal conditions like I walk to the shop and get further instructions and they seem to be ok up to that. For close quarters arguments they work very well.
On special today from ALDI...........
