Had to go into town (Darwin) to swap 2 8kg gas cylinders over. First stop at a United Station to fill up, I go there because of their consistent lower price and to got their gas price $38.00 per cylinder... Off to Bunnings instead $19,85 each about half price. Wondering what the prices are in other states, city and country. Seems way out to be nearly double and about 10ks apart.

In WA Bunnings the same $19.85, BCF similar, and Woolies Caltex $24. Some servos and hardware stores $38 and upwards. What beats me is the cylinders all seem to come fom the same place!

Yes it does seem that one is over charging if all retailers are buying wholesale at the same price.
But that is not always the case. Some 18 years ago I owned a small pub in a SA tourist area. I was able to buy my 2 litres of Coke up to $1.50 a bottle cheaper from the supermarket than I could from Coca Cola. The rep from Coke was not over happy that I was not buying from him, on 7 days credit, when I could get it cheaper at the super market on 45 days credit on my bank card. The same went for bottled beer. It became more economical for me to buy from the big name bottle shop who were selling it to the public for less than I was paying the brewery wholesale. And when you are paying equivalent to 10 percent rent to your landlord on turnover, you do what you can to make a quid, or go broke. Cheers Daz

BBQ's Galore are the cheapest at the moment for 8kg bottle refills for $20. About $3-4 cheaper than BCF.
Swap a bottle is generally cheaper at Bunnings - servos vary widely and we have found them in metro servos for around $40 and then out in the remotes at $25 - just depends on how greedy the retailer or the groups like Caltex and Coles choose to be and seems to have little to do with location or competition.
The funniest I found was the state gas producer in NSW who supplies gas to all residents and businesses as well as doing re-fills of bottled gas. Wherever we went, they were the dearest !

There is a facebook page, for just this purpose - you post a price for refills or swaps, in a town (i.e. BCF, Rockhampton) - it's easy to follow, and gets updated constantly.

In Vic (Melbourne) most swap-n-go bottles are around $40 for 8.5kg.
Cheapest refill is Rays Outdoors at $16 for a fill, followed by BBQs Galore at $20.
Cheapest we found on our recently completed half lap was a 9kg (8.5kg) Kleenheat swap n go in Port Hedland WA on Wilson Street for $17.
gasbottlerefills.com
I can recommend the site.
same as the app I mentioned earlier
One is the app the other is the website. There is a difference.
