'She who must be obeyed' and I are heading off for a run from Brisbane area through to South Australia for a few months departing early January 2017. (Woo Hoo....not long now )
We plan to go from Brisbane via Broken Hill, Port Augusta, Ceduna, down the Peninsula to Port Lincoln, Barossa Valley, Adelaide, then home via Mt Gambier and Halls Gap etc.
We used to live in Victoria so we have done most if it so don't really want to stray in there too much.
I would appreciate any feedback on good places to free camp, reasonable price caravan parks, places to visit and things to must see. Good old Wikicamps has given me so good info as a starting guide.
We are totally self sufficient in our van. We're new to the forum but have been caravanning on and off for over 40 years.... and loving it !

Between Adelaide and Mt Gambier, free camps at Kingston SE near the Jetty and Tantanoola a few Km out of Millicent , both good camps.

The following places in the Camp 8 book, are the main ones I have stayed at and recommend for self contained
# 549 Port Augusta Motorhome Park, a fancy name but very cheap, run by one of the sport clubs on Power Station Road, behind the recreation ground # 552 Iron Knob, Knobbies Caravan and Camping Area, donation for upkeep # 560 Kimba Recreation Reserve, coin showers, and donation for upkeep # 582 Wirrulla Caravan Park, good showers, cheap ($10 in 2014), small town will appreciate your business

Pildappa Rock - just out of Minnipa SA - good dirt road in - pit loos. Well worth a night or two.

we have stayed and enjoyed the following but not free:
clare caravan park, lovely setting, take a spot across the creek , it is a more natural setting, great camp kitchen, lots wineries. drive to Burra and do the heritage trail.
mclaren vale caravan park. beaut spot, easy walk to some wineries and main town for coffee. 10 mins to great beaches and even a nudie one if thats for you! wineries and pretty drives everywhere.
halls gap lakeside cp. great spot for walks tho maybe too hot at that time of year. heated swimming pool all year, kangaroos and emus visit each evening to the park.
the bottom of yorke peninsula is very pretty and worth a few fays if you have time.

The eastern side of the Eyre Peninsula offers some great free low cost camps.
Lipson Cove beautiful spot for about $10 bucks but can get crowded during summer as it is a favourite for locals
Cape Hardy (Cowleys Beach) a few free camp areas between here and Port Neill. No cost for most of these but no facilities.
Port Gibbon between Arno Bay and Cowell small charge I believe but there are a few different spots along that strip of coast as well.
Cowell has a low cost camp for RVers.
Weroona Bay football club at the western end of Cartledge Ave in Whyalla is a great spot to stop. A small cost will get you powered or unpowered sites with easy access to large supermarkets and shopping in general for topping up supplies
That list should fill in a week or so...

Surfleet Cove in the Lincoln NP is a great stop.
40 meters to the beach. Very good campsites.
Haslam, Elliston, Sharinga Beach, Farm Beach all good campsites and lowcost.
Coffin Bay is a good town too and the NP isn't far from town.
It is easy to spend a lot of time along that piece of coastline.
