Snowy Mountains, Falls Creek and High Country Trip

Thinking about doing this after Christmas - as much for the cooler temperatures as for the scenery. Has anybody got some pointers about the camping around the Snowy? Thanks in anticipation.

Recently returned from this area, it is absolutely beautiful, more so after the wet winter. Im not positive if it will be cooler for you up there after Christmas, have friends living 30km from Corryong who say it's scorching in summer.
Wether that's the case dont know but so much to see and enjoy up that way.
We enjoyed camping at Lightning Creek on the Omeo Hwy. Tallangatta showground and Stacey's Bridge in the Nariel Valley.

Thanks for that info Dianne - sounds nice. I've been watching the temperatures down that way and there is a lot of variation.
And yes Rocket, that's where the Man from Snowy River Bush Festival is held in March-April.

We've got our camping and entry tickets for the festival. Loved the area so much, excited to be going back.

The High Country still gets Summer Temps and the towns, which are mainly in the valleys, can get quite hot, well into the 30's, maybe even nudging the 40's. But it's still the best time to visit. Up on the peaks, ie Dinner Plain, Bogong High Plain,Falls Ck, Mt Buffalo, Mt Hotham etc it will be much milder, in the low to mid 20's. So you can avoid the heat by taking day trips to these spots, or alternatively spend some time taking a splash in the rivers and cold drinks in the country pubs. Visit places, like Dargo, Omeo, Mitta Mitta, Corryong, Jinjellic, Mt Beauty, Harrietville, Bright, Beechworth, Whitfield, Glenrowan and the places in between. Any tips on good Caravan Parks in that region , specially around the Mt Beuty -Falls Creek area??... Vistited that region many moons ago and is beautifull country ey :)..

The Mt Beauty CP is very popular over the holiday periods and of course during the ski season. Out of those times generally the choice sites are readily available.
It's about a 2 Hour drive between both locations, so you could have a few days at each and do sightseeing trips.
Then there's Colac Colac [pronounced clack clack] near Coryong in the Upper Murray. Different yet again and can get busy over summer [like most of the N.E. Vic/High Country], as folk opt for seeing/doing something different, away from the coast.

No one was selling diesel at Falls Creek last time I was there in Summer, had to roll about 30k's down the hill to Mt Beauty to get fuel, lol.
Hope it is different there now.

For the NSW side of things Jindabyne area is a good base. Look at the Adventist Alpine Village out near the airport. There is also a couple of good free camps of the road to Thredbo before you get to the park gate. If you are a pensioner, go to the national parks web site and get your free parks pass.
The end of January is the best flowering period up there.

We used to camp at Geehi for a bit of trout fishing. December gets warm even though there is often still snow oh the hill tops. Nights are pretty cool though." God's country"
