I'm after a bottle jack stand for lifting the van off our tow ball. I hitched and then unhitched the van on Friday. My back is cactus from winding it up.
Which would be the best way / unit to go with, as they refuse to part without a lot of strain on my behalf.

Hi Jim,
Personally, I wouldn't go past a Trail a Mate. Swapped to one of these with our last caravan and love it. I've also used it to swap a flat tire - lifted the side of the van easily using the included adapter. Fits in the standard jockey wheel clamp.

I do not know which are the best brands
Some people I know have them, they say that they are superior, as the twisting motion when using the mechanical wind-up jockey wheel, hurt their back
Hope that this info is useful

We use a trail-a-mate jack on our van after hubby did his back after unhitching the van.

Jim,
My hitch is occasionally stubborn and was a pain to unhook. What I do now is chock the tugs wheels, leave it in neutral with handbrake off. Usually comes off with no effort. Must be just that little bit of movement allowed when the tug is not constrained. I use either a trail-a-mate or conventional windup jockey wheel. As mentioned Trailer-a-mate is also great for wheel changes.
Works for me .
Cheers

there are 2 versions, the heavier one wont fit a standard bracket but a new bracket comes in the kit
repco will normally order them in if they are out of stock
you can get a discount even when not on special if you are a racq/racv/etc member
I find mine fantastic

Hi Jim,
The Jayco jockey wheels are cheap, the winder is metal to metal which is hard work. The better-quality jockey wheels have bearing races in the winder.

Gday again Jim
I have a knackered back as well. I invested in the trail a mate no more problems. Great invention and saves a lot of pain.
Cheers
