Welcome to the forum.
Depending on where you live in Sydney, if southern part, head to south coast, Nowra or so, if northside, I would try either Central Coast or Port Stephens.
Somewhere where you can enjoy yourself where you have not been before and just relax..
Have heard that the caravan park at Narabeen is a great spot.
Maybe look there
Happy travels

Hi Booch welcome to the forum try reposting this in the "introduce yourself" section as there are a number of vets who really like to introduce themselves to our newer members. Like you we will also pick up our new van at the end of next week and just to get the hang of where things are and how they work we plan to spend a a night or 2 at one of our local caravan parks here on the eastern side of the lake i.e. Belmont or Swansea (if one of us annoys the other too much we can always walk home) . All goes well with that test we will then head out to Mudgee the following week to give both the van and tug a proper road test - maybe even pick up a couple of cases of their excellent produce while we are there. happy travels.

As Peter suggested depends on what part of Sydney you are in but if you are on the northern side and want to head up the M1 (F3) you could do worse than Belmont Pines. You have large shopping centres at Belmont, Swansea and Charlestown lots of restaurants, cycling and walking trails, cafes, pubs, licensed clubs, golf courses, surfing beaches and Lake Macquarie all within a few kms. I don't like reminding people from Sydney what we have around here as I prefer them to stay on the western side of the lake when they're heading north (just kidding).

Welcome onboard booch :), want somewhere close to home ??, try The Entrence north of you . Good for for a shakedown cruise and ask for a watefront spot . They will also help park your Van if your still on the learn as it can be a tight spot to park in some areas there and they can park your van back or front whichever way suits your taste of scenery looking over the water . Dunlieth Tourist Park is the name of it unless mistaken :) , Ring and ask for the name of the street and number as your GPS might be like mine and look back at you in question as where to go :)!!!???....

G'day Booch . Welcome to GN's.
Why not head North before the school & chrissy hols . Dual lanes to Pt Macquarie , some good parks along the way.
As you leave Syd , you get a feel for the traffic , in a Heavier , wider & longer vehicle. If you go nth , watch th drop down to Hawkesbury,
it can be deceiving , definitely Back off going down to Moonee Bridge & Ourimbah . The reverse trip is applicable , plus from Mt Colah down to
Wahroonga , very deceptive . I only Need to go back to 4th down all these hills & occasionally "feather"(a light touch) on the brakes , to hold
back my speed & revs. I have enjoyed recent stays at Stocton , Pt McQuarie , Coffs , Arrawarra , Iluka to th North.
Epic in Canberra . Had my Coromal at Corimal , right up th back row listening to th waves roll in , will be there again in May , as well as
Stockton in Feb.
Enjoy your weeks shakedown & have a Safe one.

Hello booch
Welcome from me also
As I am not from the Sydney area, I shall leave it to others to give their recommendations
The important thing is to get use to your van, and keep a notebook on things you would like to alter, etc
Talk to others on the road, especially if they have the same type of van/vehicle
They will tell you what they had added/removed to make their trips better/easier
I hope that you have an enjoyable road trip, and many more in the future
