We are booked on the bridge to Tassie December to April.
Looking for some clues of good places for Christmas Lunch. Doen't matter much where as we have no plan other than arrival and departure dates.

We spent Xmas in Tassie last year. Did not book anywhere for lunch, self catered instead, and spent a beautiful relaxing day grazing at a little place called "left of field" a small alternative camping ground near Mt Field National Park.
Enjoy Tasmania, we did, we were there for eight months.

Hi Woolman, we also will be in Tassie for Xmas. Nov. to March. Don't know where a bouts either.....have no plans except to be free camping most of the time. Hope you find somewhere that you like. With luck we might catch each other on the road somewhere down there. Cheers....Sarg.

When we were in Tassy 2012/13, we went to Cosy Corner North free camp about two weeks before Christmas, to secure our spot. There were lots of family groups already there, including a huge group who had been coming for 32 years - all the way up Elephant Pass at St Mary's. Anyway, we had our Christmas lunch - roast lamb and all the vegies, can't remember what desert was.
The people in front gave us fish, which was fantastic - the place ended up packed - but everyone just mixed, laughed, walked from one group to another -and had a great time. So to me - a free camp like this is what I would be going for.

Another for Cosy Corner North (Binnalong Bay, NE Tassie) we have been going there for seven years.
Jules is spot on, you need to get there early to secure a good spot, Swimcart Beach is also a good spot.
One year we hooked up with the vans from interstate each side of us. Each couple shared the cooking of our Christmas lunch and we had a ball.
The hotel in St Helens (about 13km away) usually puts on a Christmas dinner.
Enjoy Tassie, this year e are heading in a different direction to Stanley and an Arthur River cruise.
Two years ago we were in Tassie for Xmas, treated ourselves and had lunch on the captains deck on cruise up the Franklin River leaving from Strahan, 6 hour cruise, all food and drinks............not cheap for one cruise but was the best money we ever spent, it was great.

We spent a few months in tassie in 2008 at that time we had a small avan camper the ferry price was not to bad then ,but now with a much bigger rig ,I don't think there's value for money unless your planning on staying quite a few months, haveing said that tassie is a must see place ,But they do have a very big lick if you have a Good sized van In tow..
P/s the lady camped next to us in a small campervan is boarding the ferry next week and and she's paying a reasonable $470 return according to her.
