has anyone had to replace the water pump on a 3 litre Fiat Ducato and if so what was the cost. I suspect that mine is on the wat out and as it's not easy to get to its replacement won't be cheap. Thanks

My Motorhome has lots of imported items when the guy who built it got most from the States.
My water pump is a Shurflo and that particular model was never sold in Australia. I spent $250 and bought a new replacement from Advance RV's in Melbourne. Pretty much a disconnect and reconnect with the same connections Electrical and plumbing.
But and a big but, I found out at agricultural dealers that you can buy new parts much cheaper. The electric motor was fine and all it needed was a new impellor section.
Three screws to replace the impellor and only $60.
If yours is on the way out a lot of the pumps used are basically the same design so if the motor is OK look at replacing the impellor section.

Thanks for the response. I am referring to the water pump on the motor. There is a water leak from this area which I assume is the water pump. It's in such a bugger of a spot it's hard to be sure. I'm hoping the engine doesn't have to be taken out for the water pump to be replaced.

Hi Jimbo48, I know it can be hard at times but you need to get a torch and get in there and pin point the leak, it could be a hose ,if you know where its coming from it can save you lots of dollars. do you use good inhibitor in the cooling system ?, this will make parts last a lot longer
cheers

Hi Jimbo48 - we did the Fiat water pump on the way from Boulia to Mt Isa one time, two years ago.. Guy in the Isa had to order it in, took a couple of days, because it had to be flown to Townsville and then Tolled out to the Isa. Total cost was $800 all up. (Genuine Fiat part)

Jumbo48, If you do end up having to replace your water pump and you know what the part No. is source it from the US and have it shipped here. My mate recently had to fix his top of the range VW 4WD's suspension and they quoted him nearly $4K to fix it using "genuine" VW parts - he got the "genuine" part shipped from VW in the US within 10 days and the total cost for the repair ended up being less than $2K.

Some thing worth down loading if you own a Fiat Ducato 3liter diesel, PDF Fiat Ducato Course Outline. Down loaded it from Google, its a 182 page complete description of the engine & vehicle. The water pump is on page 44. It of value for diagnosis of the engine.

Hi Jim
Here is a link to the part that may suit your model, beware as you look on Ebay as there are plenty for the 2.8L model at much cheaper prices
