With water everywhere, Andrew Burge and his wife Louise were in the thick of it at the time, drawing on the help of their neighbour Russell Tait and his airboat to get around their farm.

The family, now into their fourth generation on the farm, estimated they had lost three quarters of their crops, including wheat.

The flooding caused a massive breach in a levee, causing water to gush over valuable pasture, ruining much of the feed for their 6,000 head of sheep.

It is not only farmers counting the cost other businesses have also been affected.

Andrew Hall, the owner of the Deniliquin Riverside Caravan Park, said he had already lost business.

"Now we're coming up to Christmas, how much longer is this going to be up for and how [many] other businesses will it impact on tourists and travellers passing 

"This whole flood is going to have an economic cost within the Murray Valley of, maybe $100 million or more,"
