I'm now on about various food manufacturers who have "downsized" their product.
Do you remember how big a "Big Mac" used to be!
Hungry Jacks advertised that you need two hands to hold "Whopper".
Now, both are less than half their size, but the price has more than doubled!
"Uncle Tobys" wheat biscuits have "shrunk". Arnott's biscuits have obviously been on a diet.
Just about all the items in the supermarkets that are "On Special" are chips, sweets and most other things that make the population heavier. Particularly children.
And another thing................
Parking in a S/market parking lot.
I wrote to Bunnings, Coles, Woolies and other places where we all go to spend the hard earned, with the idea that if they had all the parking area white lines at about 45 degrees, (give or take) customers, possibly, would be able to slot in without so much trouble. OK, so it would take a bit of education for the public to travel the way the arrow would indicate.
That way, he, she or they could drive in, and then reverse out with out worrying if there was a vehicle. If there was, then at the angle they had parked, it could be easily seen looking over their left shoulder.
As it is, some drivers have to shunt back and forth to finally fit into a space. And maybe scratch other vehicles.
Anyway, it's only one old farts opinion.

Pipes, if food manufacturers are trying to mislead us over the smaller size of their products then that may not be a bad thing considering what is causing people to get heavier. Can't comment on the parking at 45deg. all I know is that I have all sorts of problems trying to judge the angle when I reverse into somewhere that has it - but that's either a reflection on my level of skill or my lack of experience.

It's been happening for some time. I make my own Baileys Irish Cream and put the finished product into the empty whisky bottle. One day, a few years ago, it wouldn't fit so had a look at the bottle, down from 750ml to 700ml. I still make the same recipe but the sample taste test is 50ml larger.

Angle parking is a very wasteful method of parking - the actual parking bays must be made wider than normal - 30deg angle results in about 20% less parking slots.

I agree pipes, and I now seldom go to the fast food outlets, except for fish and chips.
I think that the new type bar of chocolate, at about 4mm thick is laughable
I am sure that I have seen angle parking at a car park, just can not remember where As you say, providing you follow the arrows, they are much easier to use, than the normal car parks

I saw something the other day that claimed more parking spaces could be fitted in to most of the larger car parks with the angled lay out due to less turning space being required between the rows.

Angle parking makes it easier to reverse out of bay though .
I can't see why the cost to do a service on an imported model is any different from doing one on a locally built model especially as the only parts that they will be using are oil filters, oil and possibly some fluids. The locally built models are probably covered under the conditions and surcharge bit so no one actually ever qualifies for this price anyhow. I don't know if they think consumers are dumb or if they are just counting on people not reading the fine print until they are handed a bill for $300 or $400.

Well said Pipes, the size and quality of a lot of things now are no where near what they once were. I have the large size original Pizza tray, today a large pizza is what use to be classified as medium and in some cases lucky if that lol. As for parking bays, the wing mirrors are so close that often you cannot wheel the trolley between them to get to your car as the trolley is to wide to clear the mirrors, so you have to back up and walk the long way round. Just as well I like exercise. Take care... Kisha.

Well said Pipes. I agree with you on all counts.
I do remember when the products that you mentioned were larger. Clearly, the people who made the decision to shrink them worked on the theory that "people are too dumb to notice the difference". They got that wrong! From a health angle, it doesn't bother me that the product sizes have shrunk because it is mainly on "unhealthy" foods...but from the cost angle it is a blatant ripoff!
As for supermarket catalogue specials...they seem to be about 50% junk food, leaving the remaining 50% to cover fresh food/cleaning/toiletries/household items etc; I would prefer to see far more space devoted to fresh foods. Then again, they are running a business and therefore need to cater for the majority.....

From a health angle, it doesn't bother me that the product sizes have shrunk because it is mainly on "unhealthy" foods...but from the cost angle it is a blatant ripoff!
