Hi all. New to Grey Nomads. So hello to you all. We are in the process of building a camper to live and travel around Australia for a few years. We want to go off grid for a week or so at a time and was wondering what water capacity you would need for 2 adults. Got a long wheel based VW LT35. Same as a sprinter. But cannot find a tank big enough to fit underneath so will fit one under the bed. Was looking at two 82ltr Camec tanks linked together at the rear end. But weve also got a 95ltr fridge to fit under the bed to. Just a bit worried about the weight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Troy

May I be one of the first to welcome you to the forum
As we are all different, then I can only give my water usage as a guideline
I use less than 7 litres of water to have a travellers shower I wet myself down, soap myself up, and then rinse off
Therefore 2 x people would use 14 litres, plus less than 6 litres for cooking, washing dishes, and hand washing smalls. I estimate that I would use around 20 litres of water each day
I have 140 litres of water in two tanks, when travelling I stay off grid, but not off road
I can not comment on the weight, as I have never had your type of vehicle, but my tanks are between the front and rear wheel, as I have a (Fiat Ducato) front wheel drive vehicle
I am sure others will come forward, with how they do it

And from me a warm welcome too. We have 200L of water in our motorhome but like the post above ours is also between the wheels. I know nothing about your setup but be very careful where you put the weight as some very nasy accidents have been caused by having weights in the wrong place. I would check first but anyway Good Luck

You can mix tank types to suit your vehicle layout.
BUT.
If you wanting to be "independant". Make sure you have a "grey water" tank under there too.
30/40ltrs will do for short stops. with a "y" coupling and valve in there.
or a straight through with tap on end.
A lot of areas,parks, etc nowadays. do not allow stopovers if you aren't. Fully independant
I take it you DO have a thetford of some style.
If you sailing that close to the wind. Weight wise.
I'd say you need to assess the build of interior.
Keep/get the weight down a bit.
Lighter materials.less bits in there.
On mine I had a pop top on my Toyota with the double bed up there.
Slats and 4 pce 4in HD Foam
Gives a Complete interior for living then, instead of half taken up with a bed.
Another mate had a high topper with rear end U shaped lounge.
Bed was stored up in roof and dropped down on top of lounge backs overnight.
