Does anybody know of a reasonably priced place to park up for a week near or near to a tram/bus/train to the Melbourne CBD, or is that impossible

Hi Splottboy, maybe have a look at "Big4 Coburg", about half hour from Melbourne. Don't know what they charge, but it's close to public transport. "Ashley Gardens" in Braybrook is another one but I'm not sure about public transport from there. Enjoy your stay in Melbourne, hope the "weather gods " look after you.
Cheers Owen.

If you want to go a little south of Melbourne you could try Dandenong or Pakenham but DON'T go to Sandown.

Highlands Caravan Park in Seymour is a great spot to stop, just off the Hume Highway at Seymour. Regular trains to the city - Seymour station is a short walk up the road. Have stayed there often, and a lot of people use this park to head for the Tasmania ferry.

Reasonable price and large capitol cities should not be used in the one sentence. However if you can stand the strain of the cost of Melbourne prices then Ashley Gardens is right beside a bus route that takes you past Victoria Markets.

Another vote for Ashley Gardens, bus stop is outside the front gate. They sell Myki cards in reception, you may need to top them up at a Seven/11. They are very central.
