Just had a read of restored cars mag latest edition . So the story goes if your from qld and you own a til tow or car trailer with a winch . Even if your going to pick up your sons broken down car guess what ya can't . Some dill in the big white hous passed a bill saying you can't even staits a guy was watch at a car show by hwp and they had to make other arrangements to get the car home . Apparently car carriers can get away with it because they can carry more than 3 cars . 1 guy went to pick up a car when he went over a Wei bridgeand after much deliberation he got his car carried by someone else to tweed then picked it up from there . Because he wasn't regestered in nsw he could not carry the load from down there home to qld . Does anyone know anything about this . And no it's not new the act was passed in 1998 and revised 2014

So - you aren't allowed to use a tilt trailer with a winch - what about without a winch? What if you have a motorhome and want to put a car on a tilt trailer - without winch?

Virtually if you want to move a car in nsw into qld on a tow truck you must be regestered in nsw to get it to the boarder . I'm trying to find a link but the ones in the story don't go anywhere

Ok so in short if you live in qld and own a tow truck unless it's registered in nsw you can't go into nsw and put anything on the back . Even if you go to pick up you sons broken down car and your from qld you can't do it . And there even picking on car trailers for the same thing

If you can't put your (or anybody elses) sick car on a trlr and take it home to repair.

We've only ever travelled "through" the State in 40 odd yrs.
Normally stopping once for fuel with van on.
Can't quite make it in one hit.
Patrol by itself. OK.
and in all that time I've never ever been to that place called Sydney

Think as someone else said its to stop state licensed tow truckies hopping borders. Police cant do it, Sparkies cant do it, and so the list goes on. You either take away the states rights to set laws and make it all uniform, or these are the things that happen. I would suspect a private non commercial trailer can cross borders with whatever on board without an issue. Rob

The catch is "for hire or reward" no matter if the towie is a licenced operator in another state they can still carry a vehicle on their truck if they are not being paid for the job. When travelling with the Kombi on the back of the truck we are often asked for our licence to carry a vehicle along with log books etc, it all comes to a halt when I say it is not for hire or reward, so besides having the required vehicle weight licence and a roadworthy vehicle all else is no longer applicable
