Hi guys. Here is a sticky one for you. I have just started free camping and with the good weather coming I started to think about cooking outside. My dilemma is, bbq or two burner gas cooktop with a frypan and griddle ? The 'boss' suggested the cooktop !!!! The thinking is that it would be more versatile. Any thoughts from you long time free campers and bbq experts ??? No expert puns please. Col P

I use a 2 burner camp stove with an aluminium bbq plate if needed More versatile than a BBQ. Aldi have them from time to time or
I listened and learnt heaps about BBQ's and BBQing by listening to my BBQ expert, Bob Hart, on Radio 3AW for many moons. Bob reckons the best place for a BBQ plate is in the middle of Port Phillip Bay, VIC Grills are the only way.
I chose a Weber Baby Q, with a 'Grill' for all meat or similar cooking and I use a BBQ non stick mat for eggs or similar. I also have one of those single Butane camp stoves for other sort of cooking etc outside. Works extremely well for me. Everything tastes good too, if I must say so myself
Keep safe on the roads and out there.

One thing I learned and I did think up until recently I had barbecuing down pat, I was wrong ,the difference in taste with your meat when it's cooked with the lid down ,compared with the lid up is a complete different animal
webber BBQ lid down for unbelievable flavour, no lid not much taste in my view ....

My Q and I, do a mean steak and I tell you that for fror free.
Go for a bb Q Colin You and the "Boss" have some nice Oysters Kilpatrick cooked in the bb Q, then cook the "Boss" a nice Reef and Beef with some nice vege or salad. Guaranteed to win her over mate and I tell you that for free.
Keep safe on the roads and out there.

the 1200Q has a bit more room for roasts and an inbuilt temperature gauge. Don't know if its worth the extra bucks for these features but I do use the gauge a lot. Webers rock for taste

We have a baby weber Q and to date it is by far one of the best BBQs we have owned.
Just love the versatility of what we can cook in it and clean up is so easy.
As Ron wrote the lid down enhances the cooking flavour by a long shot.
Cheers

Aldi has a small one on sale 1st October. Will belooking at this myself as we need one to use at home as well. We do not have oven in our van so this will allso serve for the bread and roast. A nice baked bread and butter pud sounds good.
