We have a country property near Bendigo and the mobile phone reception is very poor. Does anybody have any ideas on what the best mobile phone would be for rural coverage? I'm with telstra.

Get a phone that can take an external airial. It will improve reception greatly

G'day mate
I agree with ^^ ... pop into k-mart of woolies or whomever, and pick up the cheapest "blue-tick" handset that also has a port [ie: plug] that takes an external antenna. We have a $55 samsung that works a treat, and in really poor areas when we plug in the antenna, it goes from a scratchy 1-bar to 3 or 4 bars
We then use the $100 for 12 months pre-paid deal and let it meander along over the months
Hope this helps
Phil

We do the same as Phil Sucasta, haven't got the antenna yet but will eventually, works well for us.
You could get a satellite phone but very expensive I believe and depends on atmospheric conditions.
With my prepaid Telstra "blue tick" mobile, as an example, I was at Parry's beach, low cost camp on the south coast of WA.
Two others there had Optus and Virgin mobiles, they were frantically walking all over the place including the top of sand dunes trying to get reception to ring their wives. I was sitting in my van making calls with my Telstra blue tick with no problems whatsoever, ended up having to lend my phone to these other two so they could ring their wives.
