Thought I would start a new topic seeing the solos's forum is pretty quiet.
Thought I would ask how friendly are you when travelling?
Would you give someone a cup of sugar or an egg if they needed one?
Do you avoid eye contact?
Are you nice to someone else's dog?
Give some instances!

I don't carry sugar but yes to the rest.
Maybe this should be in General. It's not only Solos who need to be asked if they are friendly.

1. I try to be friendly at all times but sometimes it is very trying. Just don't cross me :)
2. No problem.
3. NO, always say hi to anyone passing or I pass when walking around etc.
4. Depends on the dog, some aren't very friendly.
Keep safe on the roads and out there.

That's why they hang out at "THE" beach all the time Yuglamron. They are very friendly though.

I'm always friendly to fellow campers. Today I've found a fantastic spot at a roadside freecamp and got here nice and early. Shark Bay was a ripoff so its nice to have a freebie, some personal space and see real bush outside the van. If anyone pulls up near me (and I'm sure they will), I'll go over and speak to them. Its always better to know who your neighbours are especially when travelling alone. Most people are friendly back although I have met one or two snooty types. You get that! Right this moment I'm in freecamp heaven & there is even wifi reception 4 bars.

Usual disclaimer Married man of nearly 49 years, but when travelling on my own, I know of some of the trials and tribulation of the solo traveller
Would you give someone a cup of sugar or an egg if they needed one? Yes
Do you avoid eye contact? No
Are you nice to someone else's dog? A bit wary of them, as I use burn cream, and they sometimes like to have a sniff
Give some instances! Of being nice to people?
I am the same as most other Grey Nomads I say hello and introduce myself to nearby travellers. I wave/nod and say hello to any others I pass
When I go into town, I ask if anyone would like anything picked up, while I am there
When I see travellers, making a meal at dusk, without adequate lighting (mainly tenter/backpacker) I loan them one of my charged up, 60 LED cordless lights, and ask them to return it next morning When someone asks for assistance, I help them to the best of my ability

Gday...
A friendly nomad?
Does one morph into something different when becoming "a nomad"?
I like to think I have been a "friendly" all my life ... as a child through to my (grumpier) current self.
For the past 30 years (and more), I was a worker and camper and traveller etc .... friendly to all and sundry
now retired and camper and (full-time) traveller etc ... still friendly to all and sundry
Don't wait to be a "nomad" before trying the "friendly lifestyle" .... just be friendly
Cheers - John

I am a solo nomad and consider myself very friendly and enjoy meeting people. It is unusual to encounter unfriendly fellow travellers. Meeting new people is one of the best things about being on the road.
I am always happy to offer a helping hand, a cup of sugar, an egg or anything else within reason.
I do not avoid eye contact and find it difficult to have a meaningful conversation with someone that does not make eye contact.
I love dogs, although no longer have one of my own and have often looked after dogs for people. A recent experience was a fellow traveller that was tying their dog up while they went for a swim - I offered to look after the dog who quickly made herself at home in my motor home. We went for a walk and I am not sure who enjoyed it more, the dog or me.

The wife rescues me from my friendliness by calling out that coffee, lunch, dinner or that I am late for an appointment (or whatever) so as to get me to come back to the motorhome. Sheesch.

Cruising Granny checking in :-
I'm a very friendly nomad. I like to learn about other people's adventures and where they started. I use number plates as a reference point.
"Oh, you're from WA. Where abouts?" And on it goes.
If there some identifying sticker on their car or van, there's another conversation starter.
My work also opens the conversation doors when I pull into van parks or parking bays.
I live in a van park full time so I have many opportunities to learn about other Nomads.

How can I not be friendly. The answer is that I have never met anyone in an RV that I could never be friendly with. Honestly, the community is great, even road workers sharing a BBQ. I can't wait to get back on the road.

I consider myself friendly. I am generally shy though (people that know me poohoo that though - I don't know why). One thing that really bugs me about having convo's with others in camp sites is the couples that suddenly go 'funny' on me. Start off all friendly....and then..............See, I'm pretty happy talking 12v and mechanical stuff as opposed to grandkids poo - so suddenly I find one half of the party wants to quickly whisk the hubby away because she either can't talk techo stuff (love the girls that can - they never feel threatened) or I think they think I'm trying to steal their hubby or something ridiculous like that!!! So I tend to be a bit guarded because of those experiences I have had. I pretty much don't approach others - unless I need or want to know something because they've come from the opposite way. I have met a lot of great couples that are firm friends though, so I don't know if it's just people generally these days or the fact I'm 'one' - so immediately a 'husband thief' (hahahaha, geez my life of the road is REALLY peaceful I might add .
Would you give someone a cup of sugar or an egg if they needed one? yes.....but I have seen lots of bludgers over time lol - ie one lot that came down 1 hour from their home with NO BREAD and tried hitting us up for breakfast - what's that about?
Do you avoid eye contact? I don't think so - but being shy....maybe at times.
Are you nice to someone else's dog? Nicer to pets than humans any day - whoops!!! Love animals!!! So genuine.

I'm a born & bred country bloke so naturally friendly & chatty. Although it's not always easy to strike up a conversation as some people don't seem so welcoming to a single bloke.
If i feel like it I will persist & usually people change their minds & realise I'm ok & that I don't want their wife LOL.
I'm always ready to help out & even supply bait (if i have enough) to other campers if they are keen fishos.
I often run into people on the road & they say, hey remember me, you gave me some shrimp & showed me where & how to fish.
I don't necessarily wander around looking for someone to chat to but don't expect to get past my camp without a "g'day mate"
I like dogs but don't think it's nice for people to let their dog come roaming into my camp before there owners introduce themselves, just common courtesy really.
I always look people in the eye, that's the polite way to talk to people.
If someone snubs me I don't care, they are the ones missing out I reckon
