Hi all, I have just lashed out and bought a Discovery 4. I was wondering if anybody on this site has one (ie a discovery) and if so where did they locate their Radio. Mine has the controls on the Mic, but the speaker is on the unit. I could mount a separate speaker if need be. Its one of those little GME brand ones.
Thanks David

Hi David, I have disco 2 and have simply screwed the unit against the centre console near left knee and mike sits on the centre console, is convenient and out of the way and easy to grab mike, regards

Hi David
Have you room under the seat, and if so use remote cabling up to the mic and fit an external speaker
I feel that would be the neatest option without it being in view or prone to knee knocking.
Cheers
Vince

Thanks Macka and Blaze, and others. The web site did have a topic on radios. And yes it is a great car. In fact for towing purposes anything would have been better than my Great Wall x240. It served me well as a 4wd but when it came to towing, even trucks passed me going up hills!!

I thought those things had a Merc engine in there.
Derived from Merc anyway?.
Next door has one, uses as runabout to and from mines (work)
Reckons it better than the work Toyota.
Although anything is better than one of those things, (toyota's) hey.

Macka you are thinking of Sassyong. Great Wall is a "bitsa". 2.4ltr detuned mitsi motor, with a GW gearbox and a pajero transfer case with Toyota rear diff and GW own design front diff. Chasis on the X240 is pathfinder, V240 its rodeo with both having Rodeo front end susoension and brakes. X240 rear suspension is Fortuna, and the X240 body is an Isuzu that was only released in America. It has been a great vehicle, doing the Gibb, OTT, Simpson both ways and the Canning twice. The last time the Canning really took its toll. Whilst it got me through, the track this year was very bad. Just about every car we came accross had broken something, and reading reports on Facebook pages and 4X4 Earth, some people had a terrible experience. I was lucky. However it was only purchased originally to do serious 4WD on a bare bones budget (ie $24k car), and it just does not tow. Now in retirement I have decided a bit of luxury would be nice, but with the ability to still do a bit of serious 4WDing if and when required.

G'day David
My GME control unit is tied to a strut above the clutch-brake pedals with the mike on a hook on the dashboard ahead of the gear knob ... ie: out of the road but available
I have a small extension speaker on the dashboard plugged into the GME earfone socket [it is a $2 job from a trash 'n treasure market]
Hope this helps Phil

Thanks Phil I was hoping for something more "permanent" and also astheticlly pleasing to the eye. After all this car cost me a bomb!!! I am told there is a speaker plug in the top glovebox which can connect to the entertainment system. So when Zi ahve a few minutes/hours I will investigate and have a look at this alternative.

The way I mounted mine is on the side of the centre consul ,I don't like drilling holes that's a sheer buttery on a centre consul.
just use Velcro tape it's very strong,it's not visible ,you can remove the radio in a few seconds and put in back in place in less than 1 minute and tuck the cable under the seat, and you can use it to experiment with placement, it ticks all the boxes in my view...
