The new engine in the Colorado is Fiat base. with Power/torque 147kW/500Nm it seems to have the best torque of any of the utes. Has anyone got one, and how is it travelling as a tug.

Yes we have one, a 2013 model, 4 door, short cab with suicide doors, 2.8 l. motor, turbo diesel.
Has a 1.8 x1.8 + ally tray that sits a little forward of the Rear axle. Can load heavier goods towards the front keep the weight over both axles.
Produces massive power towing 1.5 t. van with associated gear under the Tornea Cover. Keeps every thing dry. Tinny on roof rack.
Purchased initially as a farm ute and usually has two only passengers. Two rear seats that do work ok. but a bit squeesy for big people.
9 l. per 100 round town or tripping about, or 13.9 towing the van last accurate count.
We put our Engle 40 l. and Honda Genny. on a plywood floor on the jump seats and any valuables cameras etc. between same.
Whilst sales info. gives you the idea that you can safely tow a big van do your home work first.
In my opinion a Colorado like ours fully laden for a van trip will weigh somewhere in the vicinity of 2.6 tonnes.
Certainly more than the van. And in my opinion that at 1.5 tonnes, probably the maximum load.
Motor is a Fiat design with a 6 speed Auto Allison gear box. Works very well.
44000 ks. Repairs nil. Recalls 1. Bushes in the front suspension. Fuel cap broke, fixed it my self.
Oil use, as has been reported, not an issue, never put oil in in the life of the motor between services.
Does not appear to use any. Very happy, off again in Sept.
Have fun Haji-Baba

I have a 2014 Colorado Twin Cab Auto Ute and think it's the best car I have ever had. Handles my 2600kg 20' van with ease. I am full time GN and where I am is my home so the Collie is loaded all the time.
Great Tug and I tell you that for free.

There is an updated Colorado due next month - it might pay to wait a couple of weeks

I read a review on all the utes just recently. Ranger was top of the heap, followed by Amarok if memory serves. Hilux was in the middle trailing Navara and the Colorado was last behind Triton. There are other reviews of course that have different outcomes, this one was in Carsguide. Of course this doesn't mean much I guess as motoring writers only have the vehicles for a short period and the things they mark them on don't necessarily apply to everyday users who may use their vehicles for a different purpose - like towing. And of course one has to ask, what do the motoring writers get out of it?

We have a 2015 single cab Colorado with the 2.8 diesel that has done over 80KM towing a 3 tonne trailer used for linemarking. Only problem was with the fuel lines which was a recall, otherwise the vehicle seems pretty tough. This vehicle also travels a lot at walking speed or is left for many hours with engine idling when on traffic control.
Good Luck.

Can't see it as a good thing changing from Isuzu to Fiat.

Hi David 1464
I don't have a Colorado , we bought another make , at the time of buying our vehicle in 2013 we test drove all of the twin cabs a couple of times each .
All of them were quite good , from what I recollect though the steering on the Colorado was the worst , I read later in an article the same thing.
It felt like it was rolling to and fro going around the cnrs , also the motor seemed a bit noisier than others , they may have corrected that in later years .
Apart from that they were spec'd up well for the price and seemed to have reasonable grunt and were a good looking ute .
I suggest go out and test drive them all if you haven't and don't let the sales guy go with you , then flog it up the steepest hills you can find .

David, when it comes to cars, my advice is to look at the owners forums and then make up your own mind.

Don't believe what you read in owners forums they never admit they have bought a dud, as said before test drive and test drive again, what I have found with the newer utes is the gearing ratios in most of the autos are a little weak in lower gears.

Goodness, we didn't know that they had a Fiat motor, how unfortunate. We owned two Fiats & a Lancia manufactured by Fiat back in the past. They were all rubbish. We're very much over our Italian vehicle addiction. Good luck.

pity theyre not continuing with the Isuzu light truck motor that sits in the Holden built DMax body.
Fiat has not had a great reputation in Europe in the past couple of years.

So now you delete the ones you definitely don't want from you list. Now with the pruned down list go and start doing deals. You then accept the best deal.
