The lead story is so right. Come across every situation. Sad really.
Kakadu is just too big to take in. We were overwhelmed by the sheer size and thus disappointed. I'm told Grey Nomads should stick to Litchfield NP unless you are an avid walker / trekker.

It is a pity that we of the Grey Nomad age, are sometimes classed as complainers
I visit the Tourist Information Centres, when I first go to a strange area, as I like to find out what is in the area
I always say hello, thank you, give a smile, and then sign a positive message in their book, as I know that most of the people who help me, are volunteers.
I wonder if a large sign such as
Thank you for visiting our town Please say hello to our Volunteers They are trying to help you
Or words to that effect, in a prominent place inside the Visitors Information Centre, could get a message across, that if you are continually grumpy towards volunteers, you will eventually have no volunteers to be grumpy to.

Tony. You are so right !! Some people going into visitor info bureaus are SO rude. One that we went into in WA had a big basket of home grown and picked lemons - for free. Most of them weren't perfect like the ones you would pay for in the shops, but we witnessed an old fart complaining loudly and rudely to a volunteer lady behind the counter about the quality.
After listening to this **** for a few minutes, I butted in and told him he wasn't being forced to have any FREE lemons and why didn't he pull his undies up and go down to the local IGA and buy some which no doubt had been picked green and were now dry as. He mumbled abuse and stalked out.
Don't these idiots do us such a great favour and generate good will in smaller communities towards nomads

Taking to a few visitor information staff on our travels some have commented on retirees coming in with the attitude ''WHAT CAN YOU & YOUR AREA DO FOR US''. A pretty poor attitude we reckon.
Everyone has different interests, when we visit an info centre we ask where all the nature reserves are so as we can photograph the wildlife.
We top up with diesel, go to the local Ag dealer to fill up our gas bottles, shop at the IGA & off into the Aussie bush we go again. The simple life for us.

I've just been to the 2 best Info places ever. No complaints against the others but some customers are a tad rude/grumpy for no real reason at all.
#1 was Bingara for the most friendly and helpful staff. We ended up at the Upper Horton dog trials and had a most enjoyable & relaxing day with the best scones & steak sandwiches.
#2 was Inverell (staff were excellent) but it was the huge range of brochures for just about all over Australia that impressed. Got a good collection for our next trip then a day from home we had our car broken into and the "flash" bag full of brochures stolen.

It never ceases to amaze me why some people are so rude and grumpy. There is no need for it! I wonder if just ignoring them and moving on will work?
When I was in business (retail electronics and computers) I would tell the staff that if anyone was rude, move to the next customer (probably why we went broke) one day I was serving a bloke who was just plain nasty, I directed him to an opposition shop and he demanded to speak to the manager, I said to him he was and then I asked him to leave.
No need for rudeness and certainly no need for any decent person to have to put up with it.

I read every word in the 'Times' where, sometimes, we are offered the chance to "Click to Comment". My GNT's "Click to Comment" doesn't work, i.e. it doesn't open a field/box. What am I doing wrong?

I did far north Queensland in October last year and was surprised at how much grey nomads are talked about by the local business people on how they don't spend much money and always want service for nothing and even steal water from business taps . Yet even on this forum we keep getting told how we all keep towns from going broke , They cart their meat in freezers and and other supply so they don't have to buy food in small towns . No wonder they weight problem with their rigs .
