Grey Nomad Lady at Mylestom walked out of the North Beach Holiday Park with both King Charles Spaniels off the lead and walking ahead waiting for her precious darlings to do their daily business.
Occassionly checking behind to see where they were.
Then over to an area that the Local young boys have set up goal posts to play a bit of rugby.
Dogs do their business and she just walks away.
Mentioned that her dogs needed cleaning up after and her comment to me, was "Go Away"
(Your dogs your mess and your privilege to clean up).
Mentioned that young people play there and again her comment was "Go Away".
The Lady finally cleaned up after both dogs.
Well those type of people are not welcome anywhere.
Ignorant people who do not deserve to travel or enjoy any community.
Young teenager across road was watching this and gave me the thumbs up as I passed him.
The lady failed to realise that we are also having trouble with Dingos in the area and having her dogs wander in that area was certainly taking a chance.
The dingo has chased people and stolen food and bait from people in that locality.
I have photos of dingo taken approximately 100metres away, in the same street during the day.

Back in the bad old days if an animal needed to be trained ,it's nose was rubbed into it, Iam not suggesting that's a good idea,but maybe for this two legged dog it would be well deserved...

A few questions. 1, How did you know she was a grey nomad? 2 Did you not think that your approach (in Her opinion could bee seen as confronting) 3 Do you go out and pick up dingo crap or warn her of the problems with dingo's. 4 If there is such a problem with dingo's in your town that should be looked at by your relevant council. ps We always keep our pets on leads and clean up afer them but have often been chipped when our Lady dog squats for not picking up after her but I have not found a way to pick up a widdle. During our round Oz trip we found most dog owners allow dogs to roam without leads attached. Fat lot of good a lead is just in your hand. But our major concern is always the safety of our mini foxy. We use a harness and quickly lift her into our arms if needed. But we shouldn't have to! I also carry a stick to keep aggressive dogs at bay. My dog Will Not Be Attacked!!
We pick up our baby's mess but not on bush walks away from walking tracks.
I think the trend to not confining your dog by leash or fence is a general reflection of society attitudes since late last century. Feet on seats on public transport for example wasn't that common in 1980 but now all the time. Recently on an airline the defiance of a young adult to directions by a hostess begged belief.
Lack of respect for laws. Lack of law enforcement and officers to do it. Excess paperwork is stupid. Rotating door of courts caused by soft judges. I have a personal policy now....expect the worst, go to camp spots with few people and if you have trouble be prepared to leave quickly. Avoid confrontation and trust no one.

You do the right thing, we did the right thing when we had our dogs, so should she, because it is her type of attitude and actions that leads to caravans not wanting pets any more, when it is done in the park.

It's a lot easier with cats.
I've had both. But proper dogs. Shepherds. English Pointers. Bull terrier/bull Mastiff
and a coupla pig dogs in Townsville (Hybrid very large Pig hunting dogs, Kept in cages
to stop them killing each other )
Cats. simple easy. No Barking. no digging holes. pissin' on your wheels.
My cats live inside.
I open the door, they slide out under the step and look around. coupla min's later back up steps and in.
We do have a large galv collapsable dog cage with tray as bottom floor.
Sit beside van under awning with cover over rear 1\2 to give respite from the yappers that walk past.
I also have the water hose with trigger gun on stand by too.
Inside my radius. you get a blast.
Also a long run between rollout legs with 6ft leads off that so they have plenty of space to roam. With control
The Best cure for those that let their dogs do it in public with no cleanup.
I always have a bag in back pocket (takes no room) if animal does and it's not cleaned in my radius.
I collect. follow them home and drop it on their van front step.
"Hey you forgot something".
Confronting. Yep.. but I'm 117kg with rough face and build to match.
(big chicken inside but don't tell anybody OK)
They don't normally do it in this area again.
People like that NEED confronting. Male and female. "Responsibility for your actions" it's called.

Within 100 metres of the Park and where local children play Rugby and exercise, those four boys are some of the nicest you will every meet. Lifesavers and District and Zone reps as well. Their grandmother is also one of my Legacy Widows.

Irresponsible tossers like that are the first to scream if something happens to the animals they are supposedly responsible for. They think they have a right to do what they want, when and where they want, and that it's everyone/everthing else that is at fault if things go wrong. And the rest of us, who ARE responsible, pay the price.
Did I mention tossers?!
We always pick up after ours (bush, deserted beach, backyard [like we have now], and they are always on leads, except at designated dog parks which are fenced. If there are other dogs at the park, introductions are made on lead. And yes, we pick up after them there too. I've carried stinky poop bags for hours at times.......... it's the price of dogs.

The problem of owners not attending their animals seems to us as being the more common rather than the exception.
We use free or low cost sites almost exclusively. It is common to see a van, motorhome etc pull up to a site, then let the dogs out to roam unsupervised whilst the occupants go about setting up camp. A similar thing occurs in the mornings especially if cold, door opens dogs released to roam door closes.
Most recent example was at Glen Riddle reserve at Barraba where cows with new born calves graze the large area. We had 4 dogs from 3 separate camps roaming unattended together.

I have just spent 2 weeks traveling the coast of northern NSW and there are so many restrictions for dogs (even on a lead) and I suspect it is because of people like that lady who are not responsible and don't pick up after her dog.

That's why we HAVE to pick them.
It's the only way to educate them.
Putting it on their front step gives a clear message.
We only have ourselves to blame after most areas are closed to pet owners
if we don't start "informing " them sooner.
Luckily cat owners don't normally have any problems.
even in no pet parks. they normally just say go on a back site and don't let them out.
(we don't go near coastal or metro parks normally, we live on a tropical coast)
Most people don't even know you have them normally, and we take/took two of 'em.
Yea. and proper dogs is Proper dogs.
Can't stand yappers. (my opinion only there)

'Proper dogs', what an idiotic statement. To be expected though I guess from someone who owns pig dogs. I trained german shepherd (proper dogs I guess) police dogs for 25 years, I now have a 5 kg cavalier, before that a 3 kg chihuahua X and before that a 4 kg chihuahua X. A dog is a dog, they have no idea of size, small dogs exhibit the same bravado as 'proper dogs' do, the problem is with people who get 'proper dogs' so they can show just how tough they are. Go to any animal shelter and 90% of dogs are pits, discarded by 'dopes' who just had to have a 'proper dog'.
I detest people people who will not pick up after their dogs and allow them to roam freely, worse than them though are the 'dopes'!

Here,s my 2 bobs worth .If a non native animal leaves a mess in the bush ,it will leave a scent trail ,and the local native animals will pick up on it and will not go there as it will be a threat to them .If a dog of both sexes Pxxxxes in the bush ,other animals will also feel threatened and bypass that erea .So next time you let your animals out to do there business think about native wildlife ( or for some maybe not ) BYE.

most things he ever chased were the Dolphins cruising alongside the yacht.
He often jumped in after them too (brain dead) and foxes. He looooved foxes.
It all depends how they brought up.
Not ALL have "big" dogs for Massochism. I liked my breeds as friends.

Although domesticated for eons dogs still retain the 'basic' familial instincts of the canidae order. Over the centuries their appearance, size, shape and demeanour have been modified by us to better suit our needs. A dog is a dog is a dog, I have come across many so called 'proper dogs': pits, GSs, rotties, whatever, with absolutely no backbone, this is neither a failing nor a failure on their part it is simply the result of environment and/or breeding. All dogs are 'proper dogs', regardless of courage status, after all it is we who bred and moulded them and made them into what they are today. I would suggest you find something else to spend your time with, you neither understand nor respect them.

North Beach Holiday Parks even supplies the bags for dog owners.
Mylestom is a dog friendly area, both Caravan Parks accepts dogs. Must be on leash.
The locals accept that the area from North of Caravan Park on the Beach to Tuckers Rocks is a leash free (But must be in control) After that it is Bongil Bongil National Park (No Dogs)
Please be respectful of our local Council Regulations and you will have no dramas with Rangers or locals.

Dog owners know that dogs don't like doing No2 whilst on a short leash...in fact they don't even like you watching their face/head whilst they go...no doubt we are the same!...it's why they turn their bottom to you..like they're shatting razor blades.......I don't condone the 'Lady's' actions however it's probably why she let them run free..to stretch out so to speak.....one needs one of those stretching very long extended leashes plus of course the plastic bags to follow/clean up after them....in 9 years our dog has always done his business at the end of an extended leash....and of course we always clean up.....all part of caring for your dog and the area you exercise....I am always fastidious that wifey clean it up...lol....Hoo Roo

I deliberately ignored the "proper dog" comment as it was not the theme of the thread and its stupid let alone divisive against some like us that love small dogs.
We have that long leash mentioned. It is 5 metres long, retractable, has a collapsible water container, poo bags and a torch. They are great.
For the record I've been, in my earlier life, a dog ranger for 3 councils. A dog considered unconfined could be a dog inside a property with the gate open. Regardless that the dog would never leave the property. So it is that a dog not on a leash, regardless that the owner believes it is passive, is not under effective control, breaking the law.
The poster suggesting native animals smell the scent of domestic animals has a point I never considered. Point taken on board.
Can I suggest. If you see a dog owner with no lead used, ask them nicely, yes nicely, to put the dog on a lead. If you see them not pick up their dog's mess ask them nicely to do so.
What often can happen is the owner will approach you later with an apology and regret. I call it passive friendly education....even if they should know better.
We aren't all perfect. Throwing rocks from our glass houses isn't going to maintain harmony.
And its likely to result in "the bird" anyway. And who wants enemies at every free camp?

Within 100 metres of the Park and where local children play Rugby and exercise, those four boys are some of the nicest you will every meet. Lifesavers and District and Zone reps as well. Their grandmother is also one of my Legacy Widows.

Irresponsible tossers like that are the first to scream if something happens to the animals they are supposedly responsible for. They think they have a right to do what they want, when and where they want, and that it's everyone/everthing else that is at fault if things go wrong. And the rest of us, who ARE responsible, pay the price.

We always pick up after ours (bush, deserted beach, backyard [like we have now], and they are always on leads, except at designated dog parks which are fenced. If there are other dogs at the park, introductions are made on lead. And yes, we pick up after them there too. I've carried stinky poop bags for hours at times.......... it's the price of dogs.
The problem of owners not attending their animals seems to us as being the more common rather than the exception.
We use free or low cost sites almost exclusively. It is common to see a van, motorhome etc pull up to a site, then let the dogs out to roam unsupervised whilst the occupants go about setting up camp. A similar thing occurs in the mornings especially if cold, door opens dogs released to roam door closes.
Most recent example was at Glen Riddle reserve at Barraba where cows with new born calves graze the large area. We had 4 dogs from 3 separate camps roaming unattended together.

Well said I totally agree with the O/P how could anyone disagree with the obvious ,the lazy old bag should of picked up after her dog..
It's the only way to educate them.
Putting it on their front step gives a clear message.
We only have ourselves to blame after most areas are closed to pet owners
if we don't start "informing " them sooner.
Luckily cat owners don't normally have any problems.
even in no pet parks. they normally just say go on a back site and don't let them out.
(we don't go near coastal or metro parks normally, we live on a tropical coast)
Most people don't even know you have them normally, and we take/took two of 'em.

I've seen them perform.
I had English Pointers when I was a runner. Ran around 80 miles a week
plus long ones once a month.
Pointers are the only dogs that can keep that up.
Buggar used to hop fence next door and do a lap of the 200 acre paddock too when we got back.
Made me feel small. Doing an 8 or 10hr run and prick does that to you when you got home.
He'd run from 6 am to 6 pm non stop, when out hunting.
My bull mastiff/Terrier (an abandoned pup left in mangroves by club) lived on my yacht or on farm with me.
with all the animals 4 other dogs. and geese.
Oh 7 cats too (GF a horse vet)
most things he ever chased were the Dolphins cruising alongside the yacht.
He often jumped in after them too (brain dead) and foxes. He looooved foxes.
It all depends how they brought up.

50/50% German Wolf/shepherd. they ran in open circuits and were fed over the top.

Their handlers worked with long handles nooses, baits. and a gun.
Just shoot any extra aggressive one and replace it.

Mylestom is a dog friendly area, both Caravan Parks accepts dogs. Must be on leash.
The locals accept that the area from North of Caravan Park on the Beach to Tuckers Rocks is a leash free (But must be in control) After that it is Bongil Bongil National Park (No Dogs)
Please be respectful of our local Council Regulations and you will have no dramas with Rangers or locals.

Dog owners know that dogs don't like doing No2 whilst on a short leash...in fact they don't even like you watching their face/head whilst they go...no doubt we are the same!...it's why they turn their bottom to you..like they're shatting razor blades.......I don't condone the 'Lady's' actions however it's probably why she let them run free..to stretch out so to speak.....one needs one of those stretching very long extended leashes plus of course the plastic bags to follow/clean up after them....in 9 years our dog has always done his business at the end of an extended leash....and of course we always clean up.....all part of caring for your dog and the area you exercise....I am always fastidious that wifey clean it up...lol....Hoo Roo

Interesting comment about cats.
Does that mean that cats do not leave a mess anywhere? If so then I wonder what keeps digging in my bark garden out the front and leaves the nasty smaell.
