My internet usage jumped from the usual 200 - 400 MB to 7031 MB. I saw the offer and started the download on my machine. The first thing that happens is the file Windows10Upgrade28084.exe is downloaded. When you run this there is an easy update that is run that can occupy 90 minutes. I let this one go as I had changed from an 8 GB limit to 15 GB limit and I was well in front with usage as I had stayed in a couple of parks for a week each with free WiFi. After My machine went so well I updated the cooks machine. Even after the two free weeks on WiFi my internet usage in now running ahead of average.
I would suggest that anyone on limited internet accounts look at the following:
Thanks for the warning. Something I won't be doing, since upgrading to Windows 10 I don't like my laptop at all.
I use my phone for 99 % of my internet and only go on the laptop to go into something I can't access on the phone. I use my phones hotspot to do that.

Windows is a dreadful system compared to Apple,that's a big statement I know ,but my daughter who runs an I/T company said dad it's about time you made the the change to a far simpler, more safe, system and now that Iam used to Apple I can see that compared to an apple system Windows is a nightmare...
I know a lot of Windows users will think there system better,but I wonder have any apple users in right mind ever gone back to windows...

Thanks for the heads up. Data is no issue for me. Rarely use more than 20gig of our 200 gig allowance. When I'm at home that is. I turn of auto updates when on the road.
Out of interest I had a quick look at the 'Common problems ..." link. And got confused. If I have troubles I'll just go to my friendly IT guy.
I have no probs with Win10 on my new laptop. Best thing that I did was to replace the HDD with a SSD & put all my data on external HDDs that I only plug in if I am going to require them. Works a treat & much faster to fire up .. except perhaps for the Kaspersky password manager. So far.
SWMBO has an iPad that I use occasionally ... seems to be far more intuitive than Win but I'll stick with what I know for now. To further confuse the issue our prepaid phone that is rarely used & never for data is han Android OS. Maybe one day I'll fire the iPhone 5S's that we have in the cupboard & replace the Android phone (hand me downs from the children).

Just applied the Anniversary Update for Windows 10.
No drama's, took about an hour, everything seems to be running as it should.

Has anyone noticed after doing the update if they have included the Widows Photo Editor now? It was in 7&8 but disappeared in 10. I had heard somewhere they were bringing it back in the first big update.
I used it to reduce the file size of pics for emailing and posting on the forum. It a while to find another way of doing it when I got Windows 10 on the new laptop.
I have a couple of GB left and my billing cycle ends later this week so might do the update the day before.

Hey Peter. Despite all the extra wifi used - was the update worth it, or would you stay with the original W10?
What features do you get with the update - other than the one Dougwe has told us (photo editor)??

I have been out most of the day and have not had much of a look at it. One thing I have noted is the start menu has changed. When you open it up you see a scrollable list of your apps with icons on the LHS bottom and the hamburger icon at the top LHS. When you click on the hamburger icon the list of apps disappears and labels appear beside the icons on the LHS.
I also get a pop-up appearing telling me that my Microsoft Account needs attention. I have not got around to sorting that out. I am at a bit of a loss here, I have never added a Microsoft Account.

It's a WIN 7 with 10 overlaid. free.
Bit behind times methink's. but.... So what. it's working fine. and Bitdefender keeps everything out of it. (paid vers,)
It's the first security I've had since comp's started that has kept everything out. regardless.

ALL laptops have a reset button cycle.
Start and "0" in my case. Toshiba.
It resets the comp back to basic/original.
Leaving your files alone. Basically resets WIN and clears junk.
You like me. OS and security only on SSD. (Separate Security prog on chip).
everything else on 2 terr ext 750 drive. and another one for movies and music.
It resets back to basic. then you just reinstall all you links.
I do mine around every 3 months regardless.
Cleans up all the unnecessary bookmarks etc. you've pressed to keep while roaming.
and wonder why coupla months down the track.
