Just curious how you would fill your form in free camping with no signal. Where will you be ? and how will you get a form or signal. The last one we done was in a CP and the manager came around and collected. Doing this on line now , will it be a true indication , or will so many miss out?

I'll be home but will still need paper version - only use 'puters at work (sorry about slipping THAT word in ) and no mobile phone either. Don't agree on the idea that identifying info could be released after a while either.

It can be done anytime from now until 9/8. It is where you will be spending the night of 9/8. If in the bush or similar the nearest road or co-ordinates are to be used.
I have arranged to it on-line as I will be 'off the grid' so to speak that night myself and rang 1300 214 531 and they emailed a access number to fill in the form on-line.
Hope that helps.

This Census has all the makings of a giant computer stuff up, I just wonder if they have got enough bandwidth to accommodate the huge numbers that will be trying to log on to the Census site that evening.
Cheers

Anyone who has a home address did get a paper copy in the mail last week and can fill it in that way or do it online. We will probably do the paper one just because of the different times people work in this household. The religion question mentioned above is if all those who don't go to church or affiliate with a Christian religion say NO Religion and all the Muslims tick their religion then we could end up being classified as a Muslim country. Just saying what I've been told.

We didn't get a paper copy in the mail , We got a log in code in a letter from the census people that maybe because we did it online last time , Don't believe all that you have been told Think for yourself .

G'day Gaylehere. We are at home at the moment and all we received was a letter with the code to fill in on the night. In that letter we also received Instructions on how to get a paper form. Even if we posted the request today we would not receive the paper forms before the due date. Today being a public holiday here. With the trouble Telstra has had with their broadband system I think that the system will completely fail on the night. By the way our letter arrived last Friday. I don't know if it is true or not about the religious question but simple maths say if more of one faith mark as that, than others, it will indicate that as the predominant religion. PLEASE, I do not mean to scaremonger or make this a religious/political statement.
Cheers.

Actually yes to both. I am a draughtsman at a small company and only do around 2-3 hours most days, but I'm needed in in case a client needs something in a hurry (often happens). I also act as receptionist and general dogsbody.

Okay, sorry. Mistake made by me. We got a paper copy in the mail with instructions and log on details on the front page and was told to do it either on line or on the paper copy. Someone else I know got the same so I wrongly assumed everyone got the same. And you don't have to worry, I do think for myself but I do listen and weigh up information I get from others.

its been a total stuff up this year. You are urged to do the census online, but if not by paper.
They have also employed people for a month, called Field Officers, who will visit addressed the ABS has that don't respond after a period of time.
I applied for a job as a Field Officer. It should have taken 2 weeks to get a yes or no, but in fact it only arrived today - 6 weeks later. This is normal according to my line supervisor. Between now and Census, I am required to do online (haha) training and attend a one day face to face training before being turned loose of the unsuspecting public.
According to my supervisor, who has done this for the past 3 Census', this year is a totally new process to reduce costs and totally ****ed up. She expects major problems, including the ABS Server crashing on the day and many people waving two fingers around in the air as a result!

Perhaps the net will crash .... more likely the ABS server. There's a lot more to the net than the end user connection.
Telstra is not the sole provider of broadband .... lots of others including NBN & Optus have broadband products.
BTW, I have Telstra HCF broadband & rarely have any problems, perhaps once in the last 10 yrs or so ... I consistently get 115mBs down these days.
We received the mail out with the code & instructions on how to get a paper copy. We'll probably do the survey on line before the actual date.

They want a record of the night,Tuesday, but accept that a lot of people will know what/where etc for the following week, so can be done now. If awaiting paper form it can be done after the event, ie probably up to the following Friday. Source= Victorian Census Leader, talk back radio this morning. Cheers Craig

Is there a penalty for not filling in a census form? And as far as the religion part, it was mentioned to me that if we all put no religion and all the ISIS people filling out their census forms(Tonge in cheek) put there religion in we would become a muslim state, but who knows.

It seems they're backing down with their terrifying threats of $180 a day fines. The switchboards are jammed with fearful people which is blocking it up for others with genuine enquiries. I really wish they would try to use fear to create compliance. Apparently there is quite a long period of grace and now they are assuring people they will only fine those who are refusing to comply. All that stress for not much at all!
