when we ordered our new van we wanted a double bed as it would not make things as squeezey getting around the sides, but the manufacture wanted an extra grand for the change in plan, that was ok but the cut out at the back would have to remain queen size which would be a bad look, so we canned the idea and went with the stock set up.
Now we're. Stuck with this silly thing that's double bed length, queen bed width ,so the best compromise is stretching double bed linen matress protector over the thing,as queen bed gear is to loose a fit.
hense the question is there anywhere we can purchase the correct sized gear to fit these silly matreses ..
I know the queen sized bed would suit a lot of people, but the extra room around the sides of a double bed ,plus more cupboard width,as well as bedding that would fit properly, makes me thinkt most people would be better off with a double bed , maybe it's just us, but this bed is one thing we regret in our purchase....

I'd be "tacking on an extended foot locker & make th bed-base longer . Then buy a regular queen size matress.
As I took out a cupboard so I could get my feet on th bed on an east-west bed in an old camper I had.

My hubby extended the base where it is hinged and moved struts further down. Then he made a small stool to fit exactly under the extended part in case anyone sat on the end of the bed. We can also use it for a stool as well. Works well

We are wanting single beds... might as well ask for the moon !!!
No one can show us a single bed set up, everything comes queen sized..... asked for photos....nope.
Checked the plans for a couple...the beds are different sizes, one longer/one shorter....cant work out why.
One company even had the audacity to have one of the beds just 5 feet 4 inches long.............god alone knows who would want that !

Single beds are the way to go to give you more room inside the van. Our single beds were 6'3" & 6'0". Our van was a 17'6'' Paramount so we had the singles to maximise the space. I do agree 5'4" is a bit ridiculous.

Our mattress is 150 mm less in width than a double, same length. Went to Makin Mattresses and had them modify a double mattress to suit. Tried double sheets but to difficult to get the fitted sheet tight. We are now buying another set and will use the top sheets only and the fitted sheets we will use as lounge covers at home.

Just a thought. Can you get someone to make you the fitted sheets. They aren't hard to make. Many tutorials on the net. Hubby and I gave up on sheets in our motorhome because of the fold down seat set up so we bought 2 nice big sleeping bags. Can be used separately, zipped together, or completely unzipped to lie flat. It works for us.

We use fitted sheets with the elastic all the way around..(single beds) ...from Target's basic range works best for us.
Have (in the past) made my own by cutting and sewing flat sheets to fit, and adding elastic, but as Target's sheets work well, its not worth the trouble.
I have also added elastic to the bottom of the top sheets (making it like half a fitted sheet) and that worked okay too.

Santa came up with what might be the perfect solution for you in the "Hints & Tips" section only a week or so ago. Here's the link to that topic:

Steve.
Gday...
I simply buy 'regular' size sheets - fitted and flat - and then use these to secure the fitted sheet.

I use eight - one at head, one at foot, two on each side ... near top and near bottom.
I saw them in a "cheapo" shop ... but these are them and about the same price.
