It was years ago. I was workin' in a small town in the Kimberley. A couple of hotels, a couple of servos, a small supermarket, plus two hardware stores. Now, I have been known to have a lend of someone, when the opportunity presents. One of the hardware stores had a logo over the door. The logo was well known as it comprises two metal dogs. The owner was not known for his public relations. In fact, he was quite an unpleasant sort of a bloke. One day he had a couple of the staff take down the two dogs, as the the front of the building needed painting. The dogs were put in a caged area next to the stock yard, in full view of the road. As soon as I saw them, my totally insane sense of humour kicked in. Round to the library. An hour later, the librarian and I hatched a plot. A letter was produced, put in an envelope, and mailed the the owner/manager of the store. I "drummed" the staff on what to expect when the letter arrived.

The letter. Dear Sir. The local representitive, Mr. R. Sole, of "The Royal Society of Cruelty to Animals", recently noticed that you have two dogs locked up on the left hand side of your store. The animals have no shelter from the weather. There is no evidence of food or even water available for these poor creatures. However it was noted that, as thin as they are, they appeared to be happy, the area being so confined.

You are advised that immediate steps must be taken to ensure that they be cared for in the correct manner, otherwise action will be taken by the society to have you charged with animal crulety. Yours. Secretary. RSPCA .

The bloke could be heard out in the street. "What bloody dogs. I don't have any bloody dogs!" The staff were fairly crackin' up. Eventually, someone dobbed me. The bloke was the only one who didn't see the funny side of it.
