Hi, has anybody gone down the path of a (200 series v8 auto diesel), chassis extension and conversion? Am looking at getting a 850-950mm chassis extension, with a 2.2 metre length tray, so I can load a motorbike and tool box on the tray, plus a caravan in tow. Still looking at other options, but atm this is looking like the way I'll go.
Interested in hearing from others who've done it, of how an extended chassis LC tows a van approx 3 tonne?
many thanks,
Paul

I worked for a company some years ago a that did the conversion, you can get a Dyna driveshaft (750ml) and put in a centre bearing and then extend the chassis to take a 3 metre body, they had a custom made handbrake cable and extended the brake lines and wiring, bear in mind they have to be a licensed chassis builder to do this.

Not sure if it would be overkill but there is a company in Toowoomba Qld. that convert Landcruisers and other vehicles to six wheelers.
If they do that they may be able to do a chassis lengthening job as well.
I'll try to find the website and post it for you.
This is their website.

thanks guys - I've already done a lot of research as to who can do it, and the process incl legalities. The only info I haven't been able to glean is first hand experience from those who've towed with the ext setup.

By the time you done all that.
You still got a Toyota overpriced/rated. under achieving item.
Spend your money and buy a Ford.Chevvy US Ute. dual or single cab.
Designed, and built. with much more fairy floss on board for probably same ball park dollars...
They designed and built to tow/carry 4 ton and more, from scratch.
Not just a Japanese toy overextended in all ways to try and compare.
We have virtually nothing in this country to tow/carry much over 2.7 ton safely
without going into small truck ranges.
Yank's have been doing it forever.

With the tray just be carefull of how far the tray extends over and past the rear crossmember. On a 200 SERIES this crosmember is also the towbar. Sw one last year where it had a long tray fitted and the tongue was about 600mm long. Accident waiting to happen if you ask me.
