There is a second-hand 20' Phoenix Nomad caravan for sale. Does anyone have any experience with Phoenix caravans?
It has a 'lightweight composite chassis', which frankly I don't know much about. Any thoughts on such a chassis?

We bought a second hand tandam phoenix van (2005 model) back in 2010 and still have it. Brilliant unit. Not a scrap of trouble and very comfortable. Fitted a webasto heater which has been a great asset and ESC system for safety on the road. Our unit was really well cared for by the previous owners who purchased it new but did little travelling in it.
We enjoy bush camping and getting off the track a bit and the phoenix has been great on the dirt and corrugations. We tow with a 2004 troop carrier - turbo diesel and it copes well with the load. I suggest you need a strong 4x4 vehicle for these vans not a 4 or 6 cyl car or small 4x4.

without doubt. the best off road/rough road caravan on Australian market.
Bar none...
And Barry the best designer/builder.
He has Caboolture ? caravan repairs I believe it called after selling the Phoenix plant.
Just remember ALL vans can leak. Specially round windows and corner seams
if not resealed occasionally over their lives. Even the Phoenix.
I saw one a coupla yrs ago. Long since resealed but not repainted round interior window frames.
Almost bought it, but not what I wanted nowadays.

Phoenix's were made in 3 different models from memory.
Phase 1 was basically a road van up to Phase 3 which was the full off road version.

We had a Phoenix Nomad caravan, bought new 2000. After 8 years we sold it & moved to the motorhome we now have. When we had the caravan up for sale prospective buyers remarked on how it still looked like new. The only trouble we had with it was a broken axle. Barry Davidson did build caravans to a high standard . Alice
