Yes I have had one come out to on Easter Thursday and was leaving the next day , They don't miss you on price but sometimes you just got to bite the bullet good luck , Also if there is a caravan park near by you could drop in and ask them if they know anybody has they would have had people with the same problem at some time and most caravan park know service people that come to their park to do work .

Exactly what in particular is wrong with it?
I have found it necessary to replace the whole unit at one country town but located a van parts/repair place that had a unit. A DIY job.

The lock on our Jayco MH house door would not open with the key from outside - as we didn't have the Fiat keys with us, I had to clamber through the access hatch under the bed, which is usually full of stuff (going to call it another word - but......) , managed to turn over and push the bed up, and scramble through to inside.
We have been quoted around $300 for a complete new lock - because you can't replace the barrel - we haven't bothered, so far, as we can lock it from inside and use the front doors for access.

The only thing is if you can't lock the door you could loose more than it cost to get someone out today .

I have gone online, and spoken to Jayco about this, and unfortunately these locks come as a complete thing - the barrel is not replaceable. I will look at caravans plus though, thanks.

when we were at Melbourne, the neighbouring van had problems with the outside part of their door lock. It was a Coromal, from memory, but most vans seem to use the same door (and lock) supplier. It cost them about $200 just for the outside part to replace and he fitted it himself. Had it been the inside part of the lock and handle, it would have been about $70. Apparently the outside of the handle/lock is more prone to fail - go figure the big difference in price....
Jules, was it you who did the Santa thing from under the bed??? I bet someone else was giving you stick afterwards LOL

The trick with the Jayco lock is to always have the little indentation in the lock pointing down when you lock the door and remove the key. I found out the hard way by just turning the key to lock the door and removing the key with the indentation pointing sideways. A visit from the locksmith, the handing over of $150 and I was instantly wiser.

Thanks DMaxer - this unit comes as a complete item - the barrel cannot be removed and replaced, which would have been a cheap option, my son used to be a locksmith - but no - need the whole thing.
Helpful as always DMaxer - take care.

Welcome home Radar - now back to the "unholiday" life!
And yes, Rocket, a photo tells a thousand words - easier to help if one can see the problem.

I'm a little confused must have been on a plane with Radar, Rocket posted that she had troubles with a broken door handle and then Jules said she locked herself out of their motorhome and needed assistance in finding help, except her problem was 18 mths old, so is this a girl thingy or just a hijacked post?

SORRY, SORRY, SORRY my fault - I just put my post in to show that it happens to everyone - I can't remember the make of her van - hopefully she will come back on to let us know.
Wasn't intending to hijack the post - and no - not a girly thing - just thought as above, Radar, you I can understand being confused, but the others, seems pretty clear to me reading the whole thread!
