Has anyone stayed in Quilpie and if so is there any free camps?
I want to go for about 6 weeks and maybe travel into the Centre as far as I can.

There is have you got a Camps book , There is 2 around Quilpie and 1 at Cooper creek just outside Windorah , Don't know why you would want to spend 6 weeks in the area .there are cheap council caravan parks at Windorah and Stonehenge .

Lake Houdrem(spelling?) is a free camp a little way out of town. Nowhere in town. CP is good. We have stayed out at the fossicking area overnight although it does say no camping.
You could go out to Eromanga, pubs is nice. Good coffee & food. CP not so much. They have a dinosaur museum which is quite interesting. Just make sure you have your supplies. There is no shop. Can get fuel at 24hr bowser. need CC. Maybe water at the hall.
Watch out for the Kangaroos. Oh and go soon. It will get very warm in the next month. May go out that way myself in August. Just love it out there. Be sure to check out the boulder opal.
You are on the road to Birdsville you might like to go for the races first week in Sept (I think) though there is 300ks of dirt road to traverse. But well worth it.
