Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone knew the best viewing points along the Nullabor to see the whales. We leave next week and expect to take anything up to a week to cross so plenty of time.
Cheers in advance

We stopped at this spot, you have to pay but we saw plenty of whales.
Hi Jane lh we came home late May and called in at the "Head of the Bight" in S.A. (well sign posted ) 12 k,s off the highway all sealed . Last couple of time we had heard it was $25 ph no thanks but this time we went in as we had heard that was wrong ,cost Consession $7 and normal $10. What do you get a 1. fenced free camp about 5 k,s off the highway with toilet block 2. plenty of parking for all size rigs at the kiosk with excellant toilets .3. small manitory coffee and souvign shop 4. easy 400mtr wooden walking paths to the cliffs with 3 viewing platforms. Well worth it late Maywe only had 4 whales but late July there should be a lot more.
Closer to the boarder there are parking areas where whales would be seen . S.A. has closed all the tracks leading to the cliffs except the gassetted parking areas I had a great camp right on the cliffs .With all the rain in the centre the nullabor should be very green .

We were there early last Sept. and were lucky enough to see four adults and two calves in close and another pod of five further out.
They are truly wonderful. How they were nearly hunted to extinction is very sad.
Take a pair of binoculars with you.

Head of Bight today had a count of 96 whales and calves. This is the ranger's count. Cold and windy but well worth it.

Head of Bight is the one place you can be certain of seeing whales as this is their winter resort. There is a sign at the turnoff that indicates how many whales are in residence
