I still remember the 4/5 band resistor color code from my trainee days ... after some 50+ years ....
Could it be that rather politically incorrect ditty?
Black Brown Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Violet Grey White Gold Silver N No color
Have I got it right?

Spot on for the cable CC Blue/orange. blue /green, blue/brown, blue/slate, orange /white, etc ..
But what were the 'mate' colours ? . White ...
Then there were the codes for paper insulated lead sheathed quad cables .... 1 band 2 band 3 band 4 band with a cotton tracer to denote quad 1.
I can remember practicing jointing 100 pr lead/paper cables that went round a class room of 12 or so trainees. When we buzzed them out at the end of the exercise we would be lucky to get one pair continuous.
As soon as you looked away from your job the person next to you would spray your joint with blazing fuel from a kero blow torch (still got one in the workshop).
One of my first jobs as a trainee was lying in the dirt under a very low house with the red back spiders, doing a slip sleeve with a mouth blow torch (metho soaked cotton wool), joining paper insulated 2 pr to silk & cotton insulated internal lead cable. The big plus was the 'confined space' allowance we got paid to augment our 'Driving' allowance.
Gday...
Cheers - John
