I usually find it more entertaining to read the "comments" to articles like this.
I can understanding the mass dislike of having a 'foreign' govt heavily influenced by Brits long time enemy Germany, despite the origin of their royal families, making laws & protocols that apply to them. As well the flood of refugees must be worrying for them too.
That is not to say that I would have supported Brexit.
Mind you I have never been a fan of the EEC in whatever form it took over past decades.
Nor do I support such things as TPP where it seems that Big Big business seeks control over elected Govts. irrespective which Political party takes us down that path.

Exit polls have revealed that, overwhelmingly, the Exit vote was greatly influenced by the over 50's looking to return to the rose tinted perceptions of their childhoods. In other words, nostalgia over ruled common sense.
It looks as though the Scots will resurrect their independence push and the good citizens in Northern Ireland may well vote to join the Republic. Boris Johnson would be the world's biggest hypocrite if he were to be the PM and oppose such measures after his push to leave the EU.
Somehow the Great in Great Britain is looking somewhat tarnished today. The United Kingdom is a bit of a misnomer if it only has England and Wales.
I think this quote says it all - Britain just lost the right to claim Americans are dumber, wrote one person on Twitter.

Being a dual citizen of Uk and OZ, I can only say that I support the independence of the move but worry about the consequences, like northern Ireland and Scotland wanting it also. There was a joke about the eurosausage Which was a sausage designed to euro standards and was completely inedible.....At least the Brits can make their own laws without asking Brussels . And Not having to pay vast amounts to support the bureaucracy there will help.

The E.U. Unions and No prospects for the kids
Were the primary reasons for leaving that place in '73.
The last 40 plus yrs have proven I made the best decision.
Once the turmoil and whinging from the losers settles down.
With a decent "sensible" lead.
the country will be a lot better off.
They, with France, and Germany have propped up the other country's in EU since inception.
Sucking a LOT of money and resources from them in process of.
Hopefully France will leave next.
With their finances.
Why should people that work and prosper.
Support others that don't.
Look after your own first. should be the catch cry of all.
Then give others some.
BUT not ahead of your own needy.
That's dumb.

I read in one news report that GB has to pay the EU 370 million pounds every week for ongoing costs, not having to pay that, will go a long way to keeping GB on an even keel.
Once all the pessimists pull there heads in, things should be fine.

I guess the fool are going to have live with it. Bit like voting for Pauline, the consequences have not been thought through. Interesting that so many of the over 60s voted to leave and now will struggle most with the recession to come. I predict that Boris Johnson will become the most hated man in Britain e.g. England and Wales.

This profound statement coming from someone who quotes logic from Twitter
Next you will be giving us Pearls of Wisdom quoted from Farce Book.
"On a per-head basis, Britons are the eighth-biggest contributors to the EU [out of 28 member countries]. The biggest payers are the Dutch: every one them sends almost four times as much to Brussels."
One could argue that the British are being subsidised by 7 other countries.
Otherwise I agree with Izabarack's comments. I can understand the desire for independence, but I think that the benefits of EU membership have been understated. What I'm seeing in other forums are vitriolic diatribes against Islamic immigration by pro-Brexit voters. I believe that's the real driver of the anti-EU vote.
Let's be honest, when the Brits joined the EU their economy was in tatters. Now that it has picked up, perhaps as a result of their EU membership, the Brits want to leave. ISTR that not long ago Cameron was able to extract special benefits for the Brits from the EU. That must have rankled the other member states. In any case it seems that the Brits want their cake and eat it. I do hope that the EU doesn't make any concessions that would extend special consideration to the UK as compared with other non-EU member countries. That would really get up my nose.
I do agree with Phantom also. It would be interesting to see whether this vote ultimately precipitates a new rump "Great" Britain. Then perhaps we wouldn't have to tolerate the England-Scotland-Wales double-dipping at every sporting event.
BTW, in line with Aussie cultcha, would anyone like to take bets on how long this thread will last before it is closed or gets punted into the Internet void?

THIS CAME TO ME FROM ENGLAND THIS MORNING - Just in from an expatriate Brit!
=====--=
Sounds like Aust.
A short list of financial and industrial FUBARs from the EU...
Cadbury moved factory to Poland 2011 with EU grant.
Ford Transit moved to Turkey 2013 with EU grant.
Jaguar Land Rover has recently agreed to build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, the same company who have trashed our steel works and emptied the workers pension funds.
Peugeot closed its Ryton (was Rootes Group) plant and moved production to Slovakia with EU grant.
British Army's new Ajax fighting vehicles to be built in SPAIN using SWEDISH steel at the request of the EU to support jobs in Spain with EU grant, rather than Wales.
Dyson gone to Malaysia, with an EU loan.
Crown Closures, Bournemouth (Was METAL BOX), gone to Poland with EU grant, once employed 1,200.
M&S manufacturing gone to far east with EU loan.
Hornby models gone. In fact all toys and models now gone from UK along with the patents all with EU grants.
Gillette gone to eastern Europe with EU grant. Texas Instruments Greenock gone to Germany with EU grant.
Indesit at Bodelwyddan Wales gone with EU grant.
Sekisui Alveo said production at its Merthyr Tydfil Industrial Park foam plant will relocate production to Roermond in the Netherlands, with EU funding.
Hoover Merthyr factory moved out of UK to Czech Republic and the Far East by Italian company Candy with EU backing.
ICI integration into Hollands AkzoNobel with EU bank loan and within days of the merger, several factories in the UK, were closed, eliminating 3,500 jobs.
Boots sold to Italians Stefano Pessina who have based their HQ in Switzerland to avoid tax to the tune of £80 million a year, using an EU loan for the purchase.JDS Uniphase run by two Dutch men, bought up companies in the UK with £20 million in EU 'regeneration' grants, created a pollution nightmare and just closed it all down leaving 1,200 out of work and an environmental clean-up paid for by the UK tax-payer. They also raided the pension fund and drained it dry.
UK airports are owned by a Spanish company.
Scottish Power is owned by a Spanish company.
Most London buses are run by Spanish and German companies.
The Hinkley Point C nuclear power station to be built by French company EDF, part owned by the French government, using cheap Chinese steel that has catastrophically failed in other nuclear installations. Now EDF say the costs will be double or more and it will be very late even if it does come online.
39% of British invention patents have been passed to foreign companies, many of them in the EU.
The Mini cars that Cameron stood in front of as an example of British engineering, are built by BMW mostly in Holland and Austria. His campaign bus was made in Germany even though we have Plaxton, Optare, Bluebird, Dennis etc., in the UK.
The bicycle for the Greens was made in the far east, not by Raleigh UK but then they are probably going to move to the Netherlands too as they have said recently.
Anyone who thinks the EU is good for British industry or any other business simply hasn't paid attention to what has been systematically asset-stripped from the UK. Name me one major technology company still running in the UK.
We used to contract out to many, then the work just dried up as they were sold off to companies from France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, etc., and now we don't even teach electronic technology for technicians any more, due to EU regulations.
I haven't detailed our non-existent fishing industry the EU paid to destroy, nor the farmers being paid NOT to produce food they could sell for more than they get paid to do nothing, don't even go there.
I haven't mentioned what it costs us to be asset-stripped like this, nor have I mentioned immigration, nor the risk to our security if control of our armed forces is passed to Brussels or Germany.
Find something that's gone the other way, I've looked and I just can't.
Still want to stay? Well it must be some consolation that you have Cameron to negotiate in Europe on your behalf.
And of course, the real deal-breaker .... Democracy, transparency and independence. We can vote out our MPs - BUT the European Commission who dictate 55% of UK laws, which are legally binding, are ..... guess what, untouchable, unelected and hidden from view.

The Australian public has had enough of politicians being voted in and failing to represent their local constituency. They vote on party lines and not what their electorate wishes.
The Senate was established to look after State's rights. How often does that happen if it is contrary to the party line.
Perhaps we might just get a few independents who will listen and the career politicians will be reading the positions vacant columns.

Find something that's gone the other way, I've looked and I just can't.
ISTR that Australia and Britain once had a special trading relationship until Britain left us for the Common Market (aka European Economic Community). I say "special" because Britons were paying less for Australian produce (eg meat, dairy, apples) than we were.
The fact is that we all go where we get the best deal. There is no doubt that British manufacturing has declined, but that's also the case for Australia and the US. If British manufacturing hadn't moved to other EU countries, then it probably would have gone to China. The fact is that it costs more to produce something in the UK than it does just about anywhere else. I think it's unfair to blame the EU for that.

UK puts IN a lot more than they get back, Billions yearly. They Germany and France were basically keeping the rest. For what??????. Definitely not good sense. Just certain pollies getting well greased, and fools following them.
The people will be a lot better off with more actual cash (of their own) to spend on incoming goods and wages.
They'll have NO trouble buying in what they require from both EU country's and others round the globe.
I lived there PRE EU for 30 plus yrs. and for a short while after. We could see where it was going with all the CASH money from our taxes going to subsidise Euro country's. and the unions killing the workforce.
That is why you got such an influx of us heading your way.
I was very financial income wise. BUT. There was nothing and getting even less, For my three kids and the 9 Aust born granddaughters We ended up with.
we and tens of thousands like us. Came here to work and establish stable family groups. Unlike nowadays.
Voting to stay there. is like voting for Labor in this country. More debt. More debt. more debt. All they capable of doing is borrow. borrow. Nothing about how it gets paid back.

To be honest, if I were a Pom I would have voted to leave the EU, but I would have done so for mostly emotional reasons. For example, I resent the notion that the EU should prop up corrupt countries like Greece, and to a lesser extent Portugal, Spain and Italy, although the latter economies have bounced back somewhat.
I also don't like the Islamisation of the west. Call it fear or xenophobia, but it's an understandable response to grim reality. I myself am an immigrant, so I am acutely aware of the social disturbance that immigration causes. That said, if I were given the job of screening out immigrants fleeing Middle Eastern war zones, I would let them all in. Imagine you were a Swiss border guard who returned fleeing Jewish families to Nazi Germany, only to find out that they were subsequently killed in Hitler's death camps. Could you live with yourself?
On the economic front, I picked one of the aforementioned claims at random and followed it up.
"Texas Instruments (TI) Greenock gone to Germany with EU grant."
"Our employees have done everything they can to keep the site cost-competitive, and we strongly considered ways to improve the site's efficiency, such as upgrading or expanding the facility.
However, even with a considerable investment, TI's factory in Greenock would be far less efficient than our other larger, more efficient fabs (fabrication plants), which have open capacity available to absorb what's produced in Greenock.
If the plant closes, we expect it to take our Greenock employees as long as three years to transfer production to our other sites in Freising, Germany, Aizu, Japan and S. Portland, Maine."
So clearly it is cheaper for TI to operate out of the USA than out of Scotland. Can one blame the EU for that?

No.
Just the other end of the spring.
UNIONS.
People don't seem to realise that you NEED big business.
THEY are the source of the company's that need the workforce (You) to make a profit.
Drive them out, with taxation or anything else.
and all your nice little jobs disappear.
Unfortunately you can't have it all your way.
extra taxes into country equates to more money (hence jobs) out of country.
it's the same everywhere. Vicious circle.
You have to HAVE to make.(money)
They don't HAVE to build industry to turn over more income.
they just do it basically to make money for themselves without paying physical tax.
Basically keep the workforce in play, paying taxes through YOUR wages to stay viable.
and governments then stay off their backs.
People are real dumb with some things.

Sorry .... edit .. Forgot to mention that I deleted also what I really think of the EEC & Germany's strategy.

So clearly it is cheaper for TI to operate out of the USA than out of Scotland. Can one blame the EU for that?
Well I just wasted a half an hour on this thread ..
I sat down & wrote a page of my views .. On review I decided to save you all the tedium of reading the diatribe on the battle between Capital & Labour, the role of Unions & the impact of Globalisation .. what a successful society looks like... etc. etc. ad nauseum.
So I deleted it all & concentrated on a response to my Financial Advisor's eMail on on the Brexit issue. Was he long on gold & short on shares?
Sorry .... edit .. Forgot to mention that I deleted also what I really think of the EEC & Germany's strategy.
