i have a few years left before I'm able to make a big trip, but my dream is finally becoming a reality. For years, I've dreamt of having my own little gypsy caravan. Ideally, I would like to stay someone spectacular near the sea and beaches.
i finally bought my first van which will be delivered this coming weekend. It is a tiny low-tow Prattline 1980s 13 feet long. It's currently owned by a friend of a friend who has been able to buy his dream camper van. He did a lot of work on the Prattling, and mostly it's needing a good cosmetic makeover. I plan on painting it a funky color, and have just about everything for the internal makeover. I have a friend who is giving me advice and supervision as I go along.
i live close to the border region of Victoria and NSW Midway between Wangaratta and Albury. I'm planning that by next summer my little home away from home can be moved to a seaside location which I would visit at almost every opportunity I can,
i would likely keep keep the van in storage near its new home when not in use so I'm not planning on doing much towing in the near future.
i would be so grateful if people can recommend places and caravan parks which would be suitable for me that are within a few hours drive of Chiltern Victoria. There are so many places I haven't been to. I have seen some photos of Jervis Bay, NSW which looks perfect though it's just a bit too far for me.
anyway, Happy Camping Everyone, and look forward to reading of your adventures.

PS I have a little dog who I will be wanting to bring with me. If I could find an affordable site where I can store the van, that would be fantastic.

Hi GypsyB, I have only just a few minutes ago welcomed you to this great firum in a comment you made in another thread but welcome to the gang again.
Unfortunately from where you are you will have many hours driving to get to a "seaside" location.
Keep Safe on the roads.

I've just seen some images of Thompsons Beach, Cobram. It's obviously an inland beach, just one hour and 10 mins from where I live with reasonable rates and pet friendly. Anyone been there?

Um, I think you might be seeing things Gypsy Yes it has sand and yes it's a beach but is not "Seaside" sorry to say
Last time I was there they didn't allow vans on a permanent basis. I have been known to be wrong though Usually it's because Woody gave me a bum steer

Thanks Woody n Su and Doug. I decided to drive back to Cobram yesterday and checked out Thompsons a beach, and yes, was disappointed.
I checked out Mitta Mitta online and by phone but the caravan storage was too expensive so I've ruled that out.
I've had an idea of trying Myrtleford as i enjoy leisurely cycling on my lovely vintage bike and I feel at home up there. They also have an indoor market where Ai would consider having a go at selling my silk flowers. Caravan Park there managed by the alpine Shire so that's the next place Ai will be checking out.

I can't wait for the Reno to begin
It's a very plain 80s style in faded white and yellow. Different shape to these vans but Im thinking something like these colors. What do you think?
Or something a bit like this - but bit more aquamarine
