There may be similar State Govt concessions in other States, but as I live in WA, and know of these ones, this is for the benefit of those over the age of 60 years and not in full time employment.
1. WA Seniors Card. This is a combined seniors card eligible for all over the age of 60 and not in full time employment. The other side of the same card is a Perth Transit "smart card" which gives you free travel on weekends, public holidays and out of rush hour traffic on weekdays.
2. With the Seniors Card you are entitled to a 50% discount on vehicle registration (excludes certain types like trucks etc), including a caravan or motor home and driver license. Together with an Aged Pension card you are able to get a 100% concession. Vets are also entitled to either 50 or 100%
3. If you live south of Mandurah, you are entitled to an annual fuel card (which can be used at any Servo) which is worth about $500 (a similar scheme may apply if you are NOR remote)

Worth moving to the west. Nothing like this in SA seniors card gives you same public transport as you but no disc on rego etc

Bruce does it apply to us Kiwi's as well. Over home we have what is called a Gold Card, issued to all over 65 and on the pension. We tried to use our card up in Kununurra when applying for National Parks Pass, but no way, had to pay full price.

G'day Bruce and All, here is the Gov't web site address, for all those interested in getting Concessions and moving to the West......
"100% Exemption for people receiving a Blind Pension, people receiving the maximum rate of Carers Payment or Disability Support Pension and their spouses holding a valid Pensioner Concession Card, and those holding a Veterans Affairs Pensioner Concession Card endorsed TPI or EDA. 50% reduction for other Pensioner Concession Card holders and those holding both a WA Seniors Card and a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.
The rest of us just on a WA Seniors Card do get free drivers licence and Vehicle licences are discounted. However one good point missed is Western Australians over the age of 65 who receive a full Centrelink or Department of Veterans Affairs Age Pension and who hold a current Pensioner Concession Card are entitled to a 100 per cent concession on the standard ambulance transport fee.

The 50% rego discount is only on the actual rego fee, not the third party insurance, so still a fair wack even with the discount, and this year from next month we will be hit by another $99 per year to cover the disability insurance scheme being introduced.
But not complaining as we get a few concessions here compared to other states. When in Perth or Mandurah, we also take advantage of the free public transport and rail travel too.

I think (!!!) you may be able to get a seniors card if you have a residential address in WA and of course as a Kiwi you do get a few benefits (even if you cants get an Aussie pension, but Aussies can get a NZ one if they live over there - sorry guys lol). There is a Dept of Seniors Affairs in Perth. If you google it and phone them, they are very helpful and will tell you if you can get a Seniors Card or not (starts at 60). If you do get a Card, they also send you out a booklet with all the discounts you can get from various govt depts and retailers.
Byran - you have to be south of the Dawesville Spit (the last bridge where that closed restaurant on the side of the cut is). Well - that's what Ive been told, anyway. We will be on the right side and will be applying for one as soon as our house is finished, hopefully in about 4-5 weeks

Banjo - quite correct. But I just went in today and got mine changed over and the saving will be almost $300 per year at the 50% concession rate (better than a kick in the bum). I was also wrong with the caravan - they are not included, but a motor home is.
Maybe WA will get a sudden surge in new "residents", albeit geriatric, to replace all the interstate FIFO's who have disappeared. Great time to buy houses, V8's and luxury cars, boats, spa pools etc - really cheap over here as there out of work guys try to cash up their toys
