We are looking at installing a diesel heater in our 5th wheeler. Looking for some feedback from people who have them installed. What brand do you have, good and bad points. If you have had any problems, what was customer service like to remedy situation. Anyone with bigger rigs, does a 2kw unit heat your area efficiently.

This is one site. (Chinese) that sell Diesel Heaters. From what I can gather the copyright laws in China are different that ours.
Most of these seem to be a direct knock off of the Eberspacher design.
The latest ones have the ability to be switched on remotely with a smart phone. All nice and warm for your return.
The basic design is fairly simple ,cold air in exhaust out and hot air to interior and the exhaust should not be under an opening window.
Cost comparison seems to be about one quarter the cost of the genuine article.
There are others of a similar design called Planar which I understand a few "Forumites" have successfully self fitted. Snugger is another one which can also be mounted on a stand and used independently.
We bought ours from pinnacle no probs with it also good dealer have delt with them a lot over the yrs

We have not had our Plane diesel heater from Pinnacle Wholesalers 12 months yet but so far it works well in our 24' van, rarely have it above the lowest setting.

If I was purchasing/installing a Diesel heater again, I would seriously look at a Heater that has 2 output functions. a Unit that cycles ie heats the van up, then lets the van cool down a bit before heater starts up again and the second function that just runs the heater at a constant adjustable heat and fan operation.
I believe the Belief unit from Tassie does this but I have no experience/knowledge of this heater in use, or whether the constant heat/fan operation is more costly on diesel/battery.

This is the heater I put in our last van & the one that will be going in the new van. I am ordering it tomorrow.
Fuel consumption on the Power setting is minimal as it is turned right down once the room is warm enough.
Power consumption also is minimal as it is only running the fan on Low.

I'd say Pinnical are large enough to warrant and exchange also . I bought a 220 amp mig welder through them . A few parts where quite up to scratch . Without any problems they sent me new parts without worrying about returning the slightly defective parts ., Did me right only too happy to pass it on .

Just a word of warning if you or any one else for that mater install it don't put the exhaust and the inlet less than 1.500 from the gas tanks i have to extend both because there to close that goes for both gas and diesel .

HI Peter, the Planar heater I bought recently has both those 2 output functions, easy to control with the digital controller. I had to ask for the new instructions though, as the one that came with the heater was for the old controller. The 2 kw heater works well and I am glad I bought it.

Are you picking up the power for the heater from a fusebox? It really performs better with a dedicated power supply (fused of course) directly from the battery.
My instructions stressed this point. I ignored this when I first installed & got the flickering lights both starting up & also shutting down. Running a new power wire solved that.
