If this response from the VIC CP Assoc is in response to proposals to change the State laws, then the govt dept concerned is obliged to give sufficient public notice that the current legislation is under review.
This happened last year in WA and many Nomads picked up on it and it was posted here. As a result, there were many objections to the draft legislation by the Dept of Local Govt (who is in charge of such stuff in WA) where similar restrictive free or low cost or council/shire/showground CP's recommedations were made by CP owners and the body who represents them as is being made in Vinces link above.
That was nearly a year ago in WA and nothing more has been published about the changes, which also restricted people camping on their own or friends residential properties.
Lets hope that a similar thing is not being planned in VIC - hopefully other Nomads living in that State would have seen the public notices (even if theyre hidden in the back of a weekday newspaper

A 30 Kim ban on free camping is absolute stupidity ,we stayed at Kingston just recently right in town by the waters edge a great 24 hrs only freecamp.
The council here know that free camping is massive , and iff you chase nomads away from your town they will spend there money elseware sensible councils move with the times stupid ones don't that's my personal view on it...

I think it is Kingston SE in SA. We stayed their a few weeks ago.
Council do a check of number plates late afternoon. Must be self contained, no sleeping in cars. The council fellow moved people in a car on.

they don't need to .... they just price the milk bars and other small businesses (eg butchers, fruiterers, bakeries etc) out of the market.
Praps van parks should consider that tactic

A good example of caravan park owners complaining about free/ low cost parks is Murray Bridge. They hate the showground for their low price camping fees.
We stay at the showground for 6 days. $10 a day power and $5 with no power. We spent $ 750 in the town.
If we had to stay at a van park, the town would NOT have got any of our money. Quite simple, we would not have stayed.
So the van parks did not miss out.

I am at present in Rocky. They have opened up a free camp at Kershaw Gardens. There are no facilities. It is for self contained vehicles only. At the moment there are six carloads of backerpackers here. I am parked in. They all turned up after 9pm. The council is already considering closing it again. This is one of the reasons the free camps are being closed. But what can be done?

Some of the issue's with backpackers have been around for years needs to be better communication with them upon entering the country or perhaps spread around the hostels, you will still get the ones doing the wrong thing hell we get enough aussie's doing it.

Try and shame them into doing the right thing i don't think they would be to impressed if i turned up in their backyard and stuffed it up.

We must pray that the Government reverses the policy to slap a tax on back packers.
If it remains and back packers decide to strike Australia off their destination list, who will the moaning, whinging grey nomads have to complain about?
They are the most convenient target for people to get onto a forum and complain about.
People can make whatever outrageous statement they want, blame back packers for everything short of murder and treason, get support from like minded morons and never suffer recriminations from the back packers themselves.
I sometimes wonder what sort of life some of you people had when you were younger.

Having another go at someone Phantom? Seems you make a habit of it.
Backpackers are quickly getting free camps closed. Why? They are not adverse to toileting in the gardens. Watched two wander off this morning. Handfuls of Toilet paper. Didn't come back with it.
Rocky is threatening to close this camp. I don't blame them. Won't be long before the beautiful gardens are covered in SH....T.

Has a Grey nomad I do free camp but not in cities , If I want to stay in a built up area I use showground or Caravan Park , One of the sports on the forum is to bag caravan park I believe they offer a great service and hope they remain and don't go broke , At time they have very lean times in off season . I spend the same amount of money in a town when staying in a caravan park has I do when free camping .

Great to read some support for caravan parks, I only travelled for 10 months before I bought a house, couldn't get work, got bored, then bought a caravan park. Whilst I love the work, it is an eye opener the costs involved, especially in the first few years catching up on much needed maintenance, compliance costs, sign writing, plumbing, electrical, water, the list goes on.
I am not whining, but it does disappoint me to read some members attitude who seem to think all caravan parks make a fortune. Many do not.
Stay safe on the roads.

I thank you for running a Caravan park, You and people that run general stores and fuel in remote areas offer such a valuable service to grey nomads without people like you traveling this great land would be so much harder , I know a lot of people I meet on the road under stand that you are not sitting on a gold mine and work very hard to kept your head above water .

These young travellers in there whizz bangers do make a mess of campsites I have seen it time and time again, and most people here if there honest will have as well, there's usually up to four of them in one small van, with a ton of gear and no space , staying in some camps with only a few bins ,what do they do with all there crap I can assure you they don't drive off with it at there feet...
There's usually only two In a caravan or motor home with plenty of space and these days all the mod conns you don't have to be a genius to figure out who's making the mess, you might get the odd nomad that's a grub but it's rare...

I understand your comments in regard to your experience, Ron. However, my experience over my over seven years of travelling is that the majority of backpackers that have camped at the same places as I have, are invariably very conscious of how they leave the area.
I agree some are thoughtless - or lazy - but I think this is the exception rather than the rule.
Mostly, I have found backpackers are very friendly, intelligent, personable and seek and welcome advice from the old pharts they are camped amongst.
I have camped at places where other old pharts like myself have camped ... and, unfortunately, too many do leave behind their rubbish.
I guess, the problem is not any one particular 'type' of camper but rather the attitude of 'some' of the campers.

I called in to Mary pool out of Fitzroy crossing in 2012. It was full of grey nomads and a disgrace. Rubbish piled up everywhere with dogs and birds going through it, as the travellers were waiting for the council to drive out the 200 plus ks to empty the bins. The toilets were filthy. I did not see one backpacker there and I moved on. No pride at all from these free loaders. And I love free camping but not where grey nomads are holed up for weeks on end, spending Jack Sh T in the local town.
Hi All,Whilst searching for Vic caravan park info I stumbled across this submission to the Treasurer (Vic I assume) by the Vic Caravan Parks Assoc.
I am not sure of the date it was written but there is a reference to 2011 regulations so it's not super old.
I guess this may have been previously posted on this forum, if so, please disregard.
People have a right to have their say but I think the self interest of this document is not a good look.
