We are caravaning to Darwin in a couple of weekstime leaving from Port Augusta. Could anyone please give us an indication of any reasonable priced places [caravan parks etc] to use as a base to look around Darwin. We are on the pension and don't want to pay the earth and cut our stay short.

There is camping at a club (polo I think) which is reasonably priced. On the way in to Darwin not far from airport you take a left turn at sign for prison, Camp ground is just to the right If the gate is closed there will be a one number on it. Hope that helps Alice

There are not really any cheap parks in Darwin area. Certainly none that I know of that are close in to town.
Coolalinga is about $40 a night - don't know if it is cheaper by the week.
Howard Springs is about $46 a night - again, don't know about a weekly rate.
Unpowered sites are cheaper than this.
We have stayed at Howard Springs in the past and found it a pleasant park. Don't know about Coolalinga.

This is called Robbie Robins Reserve, on the left 15km from Darwin and opposite Knuckey Reserve. If they are still in the same spot Stratco are just before you turn into the Tivendale Road(as above, the Jail is down here also).
Just go to Google maps and it is very clear, we stayed there a couple of yeras ago, basic with power, water, toilets and showers, no frills but a lot cheaper than most. Do not park on the Stuart Highway if possible as the traffic is constant.

Check out Noonamah, Hotel, Road house and van park 42 Km south of Darwin. Two years ago we stayed their for a couple of weeks. Half the price of parks in Darwin $28 a day from memory. stay 7 days and pay or 6. It would cost a bit more now.

Have a look at the GN Classifieds. There's a couple of house sits coming up in Darwin and Humpty Doo.

About 80k south of Darwin is Coomalie Creek RV Park, We stayed there a couple of years ago. I believe the current price is $20.00 per night powered site. Close to turn off to Lichfield NP

Last year we stayed at Humpty Doo bowls club. About 25kms from the Darwin CBD.
no power or showers. You have to pay for a week and it was $100. Can't pay by the day.
Good shopping centre at HD. Specially the butcher. % minute walk from the bowls club.
Can only stay there during June, July, August because of council restrictions.
